What was Olly's like? I was just a pup when it closed so I never went there because it seemed more like an 'adult' atmosphere.

It more like a classic New York meets Las Vegas club/eatery from the 60's and 70's. The severed steak and lobster (very good, but both were a bit over priced even back then). The had the red faux-patent leather seats, dark atmosphere, but service was excellent. The had a stage, a padded bar, mirrored ball, and a dance floor. Later in the evenings, they had a Las-Vegas style review, complete with Sinatra and Dean Martin songs. There was an older gentleman who always come in and "closed down the house" with either Sinatra's "I Did it My Way" or "New York, New York". The old man also used to perform at the Karaoke night at the old Champps Americana.

When they closed Olly's, Olly opened a restaurant called the Admiral's Room in a strip center on Blanco near Bitters. It was a little more modern and elegant, but it didn't stay open too long.

The one on 1604 replaces Meson. Now that place was a waste of space and time.

Now I was able to catch that older gentleman karaoke at Champps Americana back when karaoke on Thursday nights was still a thing at Champps Americana. Back when Champps Americana was still a thing.

You're probably used to the deep fried fiesta gorditas. These are the real deal with ingredients hardly used around here much less in gorditas. I think they are delicious and the fact that place is really busy and that they are opening more means I'm not the only one. My only gripe was that I had to go all the way down San Pedro. I'm so glad they will be much closer by stone oak. I can't wait.
