It was a light breeze at 5 something this morning. I was not underplaying it. I was actually out in it. And although it has picked up since then, the wind is nothing I am concerned about, and I hate wind out of all the effects a storm brings.

Your "snark" is not appreciated.

Listening to a report on the Weather Channel, one official was warning residents who “wanted to stick it out"
to write their social securities numbers on their arms for body identification.

Michigan Transplant, some folks just don’t know how to express themselves or probably
it’s their way of coping with situations of this kind.
My thoughts are with you and all the good folks here on the forum.

That was my conclusion too.
Perhaps this official has seen much of the devastation and was trying to convey
the seriousness of the situation.
I don’t know.

I saw an image of a dog inside a car upside down after the hurricane.

I stopped watching.

My apologies to MT. I guess I don't know where the line is until I've stepped on it once. Disregard levity & "humor(?)".

Actually, it is something they have done for a while now. My uncle passed away years ago, but a large hurricane (sorry, don't remember which one) was coming into Houston not all that long after Katrina....when they came door to door to tell people to evacuate, my uncle said lived here for years, never evacuated before, don't plan on it now...after all, they DID survive Karla in I think '63/4??? Anways, the guy pulled out his permenant black magic marker and than told my uncle "OK, if you insist on staying, please put your social security number on the inside of your lower arm, so when they find your bloated body floating they can ID you, cause you ain't gonna look like you do now". That was the ONE and ONLY time that I know of my Uncle actually came here and took shelter for the storm! It MAY be strange, but it HAS been effective in getting people to understand the risks of staying behind.....

Thank you, and I too apologize since you obviously didn't mean it to be snarky. In fact I didn't take it that way until I read it again and then noticed the emoji that you used. I then saw it negatively.

I hope to have more communications with you in this forum.

I've heard it before. I think it came from Katrina, or some other disaster. This guy didn't make it up himself.

And here's the thing. If EVERYONE he was suggesting evacuate actually did evacuate, the roads would be jammed and the shelters would be jammed and more people would die in that effort than if you just stay put if you're in a good structure on high ground. Trailer parks or people right on the beach are one thing - but to suggest that people who have sturdy shelter all leave at once is just . . . dangerous.
