It's going to be either Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, DFW, Denver, or a Northeastern city.

I think our city leadship needs to really look in the mirror on the outcome of the decision not to provide a bid. Not only was it good exposure to bid but Amazon has even said it put cities on the map for future expansion that they were not looking at.

So much for a progressive forward looking election class.

SA needs to look at this as what they should strive to become... Not what they've already lost.

It was Nirenberg and Wolfe that killed the bid, never even got to city council.

It's not going to happen. End of story.... or a dream.

I saw some commentary about what it would mean in terms of "brain drain" if Austin got the deal. I know a lot of folks that I work with would jump ship. To me, nothing is worth Austin traffic, but I just might have to move anyway as housing prices would significantly drop in San Antonio if a lot of people put their places up for sale all at the same time.

Maybe if this happened, this company I work for would finally work on retaining good people.

IMO, there was never any intent for them to locate anywhere but the Virginia/DC area. The other cities were simply being used as "bait" to get those areas to put more on the table. Given their winters, it doesn't make much sense to me (snow/ice on roads, etc), but the CEO is from that area, and just built a new home there - who wants to commute cross county? It's just like the sports teams that name SA as a "contender" from time to time - it's all a shell game, IMO.

SA needs to focus on manufacturing and IT type enterprises - those generate a lot of ancillary/support type businesses with additional employment opportunities for the populace. If you read about or talk to those actually working in an Amazon warehouse/fulfillment center, it's really not a very good job in terms of working conditions.
