Juan Seguin was San Antonio's first hispanic mayor, he was also at the Battle of the Alamo and was a Captain in William Travis's Army. Travis sent him, as a messenger, to Sam Houston. Houston prevented him returning to the Alamo. He fought at San Jacinto and later served two terms as mayor of San Antonio. He was a highly decorated hero of Texas. He died in Mexico where they considered him a traitor.
In 1976, as a good will gesture, Mexico allowed his body to be brought back to Texas and on July 4, 1976, the City of Seguin buried Juan Seguin on a hillside south of the community near Starke Park. Here are some photographs of his burial site:
