heh, not surprised. I was by there on Saturday and thought there's no way they could open that soon, it'd take longer than that just to get all the cranes and scaffolds down!

Actually, we should ALL care...

New hotels are the lifeblood of this city's overall growth process: With over 15 new hotels going up in the downtown area over the next 5-8 years, it will put San Antonio in line to host major national conventions, one of which may be political. That would be huge for SA.

It all means big money and our name in the press. Delays on construction and, specifically, Hyatt not being able to micro-manage their schedule and crew, doesn't speak well for future projects in the city. If you were a W, Ritz or Four Seasons, wouldn't it spook you a little? Yes, it would.

I'm sure it'll all work out peachy keen. I'm happy that we've got a new hotel and a higher branding location within the chain. It can only bring good things for this city...

No, some of us (and perhaps many) don't care! SA already gets enough tourists, conferences, etc and huge, ugly buildings like this add nothing to the skyline. I welcome the delays, and hope it slows down and preferably stops any and all efforts to make us more like Dallas or Houston...

Sorry, SA has enough going for it that monstrocities like the Hyatt aren't needed.

Cheers! M2

Have you ever considered how much your property tax would have to be increased to covere essential city services if they did not have the tourist sales tax and hotel service tax revenues?
