This is not the Institute of Texan Cultures building. This is the former Women's Pavilion left over from the fair. UTSA does use the building for storage according to the city's inventory of structures on the HemisFair site.

The inventory also has interesting information about the architecture of this building as well as it's architect Cyrus Wagner.

I used to have a collection of photographs at the Institute of Texan Cultures and this was the bldg I went in if my memory serves me right. It was also shared by public television headquarters.

You may have gone into that building as it is storage for UTSA/The Institute, however the Institue proper is a much larger structure. Architecturally it is a rectaliniar pre-cast concrete building with minimal openings and angled facades that overhang the main floor of the building at a sharp angle, which is surrounded by earthen berms and a granite water feature along the main entry facade. This strucutre was the old State of Texas Pavilion during HemisFair. There is a rendering of the Institute on its home page.

UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures Home Page

As for KLRN/KLRU, they did have studios in the main Institute building until 1994, when they relocated into their own building on Broadway (KLRN :: San Antonio: About Us > History). Perhaps they used this building for storage as well.

As far as I know the old Women's Pavilion (shown in your photos), a cast concrete, glass and brick structure, has never housed exhibits for the institute.

Icrbrg: You're absolutely right! Now that I saw the pic on the website I remember it now. It was many years since I had been there and mine plays tricks on you sometimes. I stand corrected.

We had a party in Gruene, TX and I'm about to upload them at this time. I arrived about 5 pm. Tonight we had 7 guest. Romy and her mother Rose Marie from Spain, Southeast Texas and his wife (Gene & Crystal) and KYFILLY and her husband (Rebecca & Marty), and myself, Gary (gy2020). Despite the smaller than anticipated group, we all had a good time. We stayed and enjoyed a good meal at the Grissmill until about 8 pm and then we went over to the Gruene Hall. There was a large crowd inside, but outside much more enjoyable. We had picnic tables and Gene showed Romy how to play horseshoes.
Enough talk, Here are the pics:

I arrived early and took some pics of the Grissmill:
