That is how much more they grew then San Antonio metro.

In 2006 we grew by 54,100. They grew by 58,800 or so.

What are you talking about Knoxville's tallest building is the Plaza Tower 327 ft.
While Corpus's Tallest is only 411 ft.
How is this congruent to SA's 750 ft. Tower of the Americas.

if we're talking about image and appearance, then the tower of the americas is an integral part of the sa skyline and should be included in any comparisons.

but even if you choose to ignore the tower, san antonio has six buildings taller than the tallest building in knoxville and four taller than the tallest building in corpus christi. Moderator cut: competitor website. not that sa's skyline is anything to write home about if you grew up in new york, but knoxville and corpus?

(oh, and i love it how you guys hold up the corpus skyline Moderator cut: competitor website as something really great. aren't those the same "brown dull looking buildings" you were disparaging earlier?)

By airplane? Even from FAR north suburbs/municipalities such as Zion, it's about a 1 hour - 50 mile drive to DT Milwaukee. DT Chicago to DT Milwaukee and it's a 100 miles, with no Metra commuter link-up, just stinkin' Amtrak.

While Corpus does have a commendable skyline for it's metro size, if you take away the Shoreline Plaza towers, it's basically comparable to SA's Medical Center. I'm not familiar with Knoxville, but Nashville has a pretty awesome skyline.

Census: 2006-2007 Metropolitan Statistical Area growth

apparently sa has officially swapped spots with kansas city to become the 28th largest metro area.

if the sa metro area continues to grow at this percentage rate (relative to other metros), i'm guessing that we'll break the top 25 metros fairly soon, surpassing orlando and cleveland in 2009, and sacramento and cincinnati in 2011 to become 24th largest. theoretically, this process may even be accelerated if orl, cle, and sac see reduced population growth or a net decline in the 2007-2008 period due to the housing crunch.

obviously basing one's projections on a one-year period of time is quite simplistic and would be make for some absurd long-term projections, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Interesting. I didn't realize Orlando had slowed its growth that much. But even at these rates, it could be awhile before SA surpasses them or Sacramento (7-10 years, iow). Also keep in mind that Las Vegas will likely blow by all three within that time frame.

actually, vegas only gained 5,000 on sa in the past year and they are currently (at least in 2007) 155,000 smaller. i guess we'll have to see if las vegas returns to the astronomical growth of the 90's and early 2000's.

san antonio gained 20,000 on orlando in the past year and is currently 41,000 smaller. those numbers are 26,000 and 100,000 for sacramento.

btw, I don't know if anyone has done this yet, but my (rough) calculations have SA at around 2,160,000 by 2010, based on the '06-'07 metro growth rate of 2.8 percent. By 2015 it'd be around 2.5 million, and between 2.8 and 2.9 million by 2020.
