San Diego to San Antonio
I just discovered this site a couple of days ago, and have been reading intently all the posts. I will be moving with my family soon to San Antonio from San Diego, and am having some reservations about it. The move is based more on choice (as in family and cost-of-living) rather than being necessitated by job or other reasons. I grew up in Houston, but have lived in SD for the last 8 years and absolutely love it, although I am looking forward to being close to family again.
I know there are some here who made this move and really like it, but I'm curious, is there anyone who made the same move from SD to SA and regrets it? Thanks

We moved from San Diego in September. My husband and I are both many generation San Diegans, all of our friends and family still live back there. Moving here was the best choice we have ever made. There's no way we could ever even come close to owning a home back there, we lived month to month, and the public schools are atrocious. We loved our jobs and had great careers but were never going to get ahead in life. The cost of living there is insane, the cost of homes criminal. We have family and friends that are going through forclosures back there and can't make ends meet. And don't even talk about the cost of gas. Why is it gas is so much more expensive there? More expensive than Hawaii or LA? There's just no excuse for the city being bankrupt, none at all. We love it here, regardless of how many natives here don't want us moving in. All my neighbors are from California anyway so the only time I hear them complaining is on the boards. We are Texans now and my daughter will be raised Texan too, much to my mother-in-law's dismay...

Michelle I did undergrad at SDSU and studied Economics. I am from L.A. and now live in L.A.
My Economics professor told me San Diego has the highest gas prices in CA because it can. Meaning, if the store owners can get away with it why not.
San Diego's gas is about 10cents or so more than L.A.

san antonio/el cajon
I was in San Antonio a month ago and I was surprised by the gas prices, but when I went to buy an investment property I realized how crazy the property taxes are.
San Diego is crazy, there is no reason for the city to be bankrupt. There are so many rich people paying tens of thousands of dollars in property taxes. Where did the money go?
I have a friend who lives in El Cajon, he is paying 1,000 a month for a 1bedroom, and living in El Cajon is not something to brag about.

The only bad thing about moving to San Antonio is that there are no direct flights to San Diego, you got to go thru Denver, Phoenix, Dallas or Vegas.

Yes there is, we always fly non stop to San Diego. Southwest Airlines, usually $89 each way.

Denver! Even if you fly Continental it takes you to Houston and then back but certainly not as far as Denver. We've never done anything other than Southwest direct flight though, cheap and efficient.

Southwest has a ton of direct flights to a lot of California cities.
