I was very disappointed in San Antonio radio when I moved here a year ago. I grew up on classic rock, but I'd like to have a little more variety. I really miss LA's Indie 103.1 and I find myself listening to their streaming broadcast when I'm not listening to BBC 6's webcast. I also record Indie's Jonesy's Jukebox (Sex Pistol Steve Jones' freeform, 2-hour show) weekdays from 2-4 and then play it in my car. SO much better than anything available locally. I'm surprised it hasn't been picked up by Sirius/XM.

I've lived here 11 years this June, and I'm STILL disappointed in San Antonio's radio. I mean, seriously. There are how many colleges/universities here, and none of them have an alt rock station?

I also love classic rock and I like '80s rock and pop, but I'd LOOOOVE to have a good alt rock station.

I have to say, though, that I do appreciate the jazz stations here (Trinity's - 91.7 I think? - is really good).

It's only a matter of time before it happens. With iPods that can hold hundreds of hours of commercial-free music and MP3-capable CD players in most cars, change will come. Kids want music they like or they'll find another alternative. Even the Jack stations have started to include once-edgy bands in their playlists.

Go to an alt rock show in San Antonio, and you will see why it is non existent on the radio. I've seen some awesome bands come to town with absolutely no audience whatsoever. If they haven't been on MTV or BET, forget about it.

I'm better off just reading blogs and/or writing down band names that appear at SXSW that I haven't heard of and downloading them.

Sad, but true. My friend's band played Sunset Station a few years back and the place was packed, but they asked the crowd where they were from and about 75% had driven down from Austin. I guess it's no surprise that they just scheduled 2 more shows up there at Stubb's.

Well, that's a shame. My husband and I both love live shows, but a) we're old and would stand out like sore thumbs at alt rock shows, and b) between work, softball, school and family, we don't have a bunch of time for live music, unfortunately.

I'm almost 45, but that doesn't stop me from taking in as many shows as possible. But it is hard to stifle a laugh sometimes. Today's hip kids are tomorrow's softball coaches.

Hee! Ok, so you're only a couple years older than us. I'll tell him we need to haul our booties out more often!
