104.5 is what I usually listen to in the mornings - not much talk, and they give the weather, which is important for good hair days and all.

My requirement for radio in the morning? "SHUT UP AND SING!"

I'm in 100% agreement with you. It's the price you pay to live here in Disneyland.

by the way, my radio station does a decent job with the indie side of things - but you have to listen after 10pm...before that it's jazz.

I'm better off just reading blogs and/or writing down band names that appear at SXSW that I haven't heard of and downloading them.

What 99.5 needs is Kid Chris.

He was here when 102.7 was known as K-ROCK. And like other Rock stations that have come and gone. K-ROCK almost had no effect on KISS.

I love KISS but they have way to many commercials.
I was up in Austin today, out near 290 and SH-130, and got excellent signal on 97.7. I was real surprised.

And all he could do was insult the place. Good Riddens.

I'm amazed that through the course of this whole conversation iPods have only been mentioned once. I almost never listen to my radio anymore...I've got my iPod hooked up to it (and you can get a decent aftermarket stereo with a direct iPod connection - meaning you control the iPod through the stereo - for less than $200.) and I download the morning show podcast from the station we used to listen to in Chicago...better than any morning show here...and listen to that and other podcasts on my way to work. There's a lot of NPR stuff out there on podcast, and some great music podcasts too...

If I run out of podcasts to listen to, I've got thousands of songs that I can shuffle through, and if a song comes up that I don't want to hear, I just hit the "next" button. I'm almost never at the whim of a station program manager. I program the music in my car!

Don't be to surprised. According to the link below, 97.7 should reach south Austin. Although, 97.7 targets San Antonio because it's coverage is better and it's the larger market of the two.

I've been listening to 97-7 almost exclusively lately. They seem to have a better playlist than KISS.

Yeah, you are right. I guess I forgot how close SA and Austin are. They could actually be considered a single market. Down here, I get many Austin stations, and up there, many from SA.
