Where is a good place for someone looking for people from the north (Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, New York) to hang out, drink a brewski, and do some bonding?

Where I work, except no visitors or beer is allowed
Out of the 6 of us, two are from Michigan, one from Chicago, and another is from Pennsylvania. The other two don't count because they're from the south..

I don't know of any place in this city where people from specific regions hang out. It's pretty much a big melting pot thanks to the military and anywhere they are is probably your best chance of finding someone that's not from around here..

Thanks for the reply. I probably won't get much of a response, guess I just miss Detroit. Military hangouts would have more variety I suppose.

Texans can be just as much fun. We may not know how to use a sled, or get ice off our cars, but we know how to two-step and smoke a brisket. Just sayin'.

I miss Michigan (Ann Arbor) a lot too. Most of the people I know around here that are from Michigan don't miss it at all though, especially the cold and snow. Those are two of things near the top of my list of missed things from Michigan though.. I think I'm the only person in the whole SA section that actually enjoys cold weather and snow..

I'm a transplant from central Illinois. While I don't miss the winter weather, I do miss the weather the rest the year, and I just miss home. I miss farm country (REAL farm country, with acres and acres of corn, beans and wheat, not what passes for "farm country" in Texas). I miss the friendliness of the people. I miss summer having variation and NOT lasting 6 months. I miss it cooling off a bit at twilight in the summer. I miss lightening bugs. I miss lilacs. I miss being able to plant about anything and it coming up without me having to water the hell out of it every day (or more). I miss peonies and tulips growing with ease out in the yard. Obviously I could go on. And on.

However, I've gone and done the unthinkable - I married a native Texan. I'm here for the duration, for better or for worse.

Happily, I work with a TON of people who moved here from Illinois - mostly from the Chicago area, but there's one guy who grew up about 15 miles from where I did, in the town where my mom lives now. So that's kind of totally awesome.

Well, my wife reminds me every winter that she misses the snow/colder weather, so you are not alone. She grew up in Virginia in near the mountains.

I've only been here for 41/2 months since moving from Michigan and I seem to run into people from the midwest every week. My mother-in-law just visited and reported the snowiest weather she can remember in 30 years-we left just in time! I love the weather here but my darling husband likes it cold. I think he may change his tune soon since he can golf year round! There are lots of transplants here and the native texans are the most welcoming people I have ever met!
