Christmas Airfare Question
OK...we have to go (ummm...I mean GET to go) to Pierre South Dakota for Christmas this year to visit DH family.
Since Pierre is only serviced by puddle jumper kinda aircraft, do you think it better to book now or wait to see if airfares go down any (I know fuel is going up, but I figured maybe a sale if people are not flying so much)....do any of you that fly a lot have any suggestions?
Appreciate any words of wisdom you could provide!
Currently, rates are WAY higher than we have ever paid...a little over $1,200 for the two of us. Dang, I can go to LONDON cheaper!!!

I'd be surprised if you could book now - most fare services (orbitz, etc) I use don't let me book more than six months out for domestic.
In any case, I think I would wait. If the economy keeps heading toward the dumps, then leisure travel will decline and airlines will maybe lower fares? It's a gamble, of course and may not work out that way at all!
There's a great website I've used that forecasts fares based on past trends. If I can find the link or recall the name of the site, I'll pass it along.
And where are you finding fares to London cheaper than $1200???? I'm trying to get to Europe this summer and will likely go Space A (military) to avoid paying almost $3k for two tickets!!!

It‘s going to be a weird year for airfares. Fuel costs are way up and loads are way down. If the trends hold, the cheapest holiday fares might not appear until 4-6 weeks before departure. It might be a good strategy to buy a fully refundable ticket and watch the fares for a better deal later.

"Paks"...I frequently send some staff members to Fargo, ND. It's pretty much the same deal. 4 gates at the airport...only Northwest and United ( I think Delta just started service as well). Tough ticket. We frequently pay circa $1000 per ticket.
I could be wrong, but I doubt that you'll see any sort of sale to Pierre. That being said...I would still wait a bit to purchase the ticket. Airfares are loaded 3-4 times daily in most cases...keep on checking. If you don't see anything lower when the trip is 3-4 months out, then book it.

I'd wait til September, there's usually a fare drop after Labor Day.

Thanks guys...I never thought about the fully refundable hoping for cheaper...that is a GREAT idea!
Yea...now just pray it is not BLIZZARD conditions as we try to get in there on a plane that holds 5 1/2 people and has a curtain to close off the cabin from the cockpit! LOL
(actually, have done that...and the MAJOR thunderstorm...all the luck I have!!!)
