Hello Everyone,

Does anyone have any info about a new movie theater coming in along 281 north of 1604? In fact, do you know of any plans for a theater anywhere outside the loop in the far north central region? I saw a rumor in a thread that a site had been approved at Marshall & 281 . . . but I can't confirm that & I've seen nothing else about it for months now.

Thanks!

There is supposed to be a 2-story boutique theater built in the Legacy "Lifestyle Center". I haven't heard anything but it is on the site plan - http://www.santikos.com/realestate/l...85SitePlan.pdf

Here is a CD post that may be helpful - Current and Future Movie Theaters in SA.

IIRC, someone here said that the theater in the Legacy shopping center would go in after the office complex is completed in the next phase. I don't see that there's much of a rush to add screens there, given the proximity of the Regal Northwoods and the Santikos Embassy to the south. The theater at the Rolling Oaks mall actually closed due to lack of business in the early part of this decade, which probably put the brakes on theaters opening north of 1604 for a few years.

The AMC that was supposed to go in at La Cantera was canceled since Palladium was built at The Rim.

Movie distribution has alot of control over where movie theaters go. I'm suprised that there are so many on IH-10, you know AMC and Fiesta and the rim. Is Northwest even there anymore. That being said theater companies may be very hesitant to open another theater to the north of 1604 with Northwoods being so close. Back in the late 90's ACT III and Regal wanted to build a third level component on to Windsor Park Mall and open a theater, they were stopped because of the Galaxy being in the same trade area.

Considering the eventual fate of the Windsor Park Mall, I bet that those companies consider that quite fortunate in hindsight.

^ Who knows what would have happened had a theater component been built, it would have been unique in the San Antonio Suburban Mall market, and probably would have pulled in some good business.
