I work at I10 and Huebner and live at Potranco and 1604. Going to work, I drive down Potranco nearly to the end and take a right on Ingram and a quick left on Wurzbach. Take that to Babcock then cruise to Huebner and hang a right. Going home has to be 410 because coming back that same way, you will pull your hair out after Evers waiting for the light at Wurzbach and Bandera. 1604 is never even an option for me.

We have actually delayed the purchase of a home in the Del Webb Hill Country Resort area because of the traffic...what a mess at that intersection. I will deal with the commute on 1604 and enjoy getting to turn in at Westcreek....at least as long as that lasts.

I truly see Potranco becoming the next "hate to deal with it" intersection on our drive....seems to be spreading down towards us ever since Bandera Rd and 1604 became an issue.

Can anyone comment on what the commute times would be to USAA from the following locations? Leaving the house @6:30am.

-Bandera Rd/1560 intersection to USAA

-Alamo Ranch to USAA

Thanks so much! We are trying to make a decision on where to buy and this is a factor in our decision/quality of life! We are moving from Austin and have found traffic in San Antonio to be so much worse than Austin!

No, being a "newbie" it will not be as bad to you...it is those of us that have lived here since the early 90's that bought when there was NOTHING out here...no lights, few stopsigns that really lament the huge traffic changes.

I think if I were to move here and not know how rural it was in the 90's, I would just figure it to be the normal rush hour stuff.

They will get this all resolved, but the growth here has not been something the road/intersections have been able to keep up with in certain areas...and given to that mix the fact that they are widening Culebra which has the current traffic routed down to 2 lanes, it all messes up the flow of traffic until repairs/widening is completed.

Bandera Rd/1560 intersection to USAA - It shouldn't be too bad...I would guess 20-25 minutes barring any accidents/congestion. You can cut over on Hausman and avoid the mess at Bandera and 1604. I have done some training at Camp Bullis and found that staying on the access roads is sometimes faster than getting on 1604 itself. Another little trick I have is taking the exit before the I-10 (the one that drops you off at the entrance to Valero HQ) and looping down and under the overpass at 10/1604 (where they are building the new Drury Inn hotel) and then merging back onto 10 south.

Alamo Ranch to USAA - This will suck more, as previously mentioned there is no northbound access to 1604 from the AR parkway and 1604. As such, I would expect it to take 30-40 minutes. You could cut down to Culebra from Westwoop Loop and then try to get over to 1604 north, but to be honest you are almost better off taking 1560 north all the way into Helotes and then following the above directions.

Again, these are just WAGs as I leave the house at 5:30 and can make it to the Security Hill entrance to Lackland AFB in about 20-25 minutes in my car if the traffic lights are cooperating. About five minutes longer in the Jeep, but I drive a lot slower in that gas hog!

Cheers! M2

Default culebra/1604 intersection

According to '05 stats, over 3,000 vehicles went thru this intersection and by now, I bet it's doubled.

Eventually the plan is to open hwy 151 straight through to Alamo ranch but I don't know when that will occur. It doesn't look like the near future.

The near future will be much worse. There are plans to increase the number of houses along hwy 471 (inside Bexar county) by almost 10,000, add another HS (near the Old 471 split), and when the super Target and two mini-malls. Check this 'master-plan' for the West Bexar development (note the number of lots per neighborhood that is projected).
http://www.sullivan-commercial.com/U...wth%202007.pdf

Couple of solutions:
1) off of Hwy 151, turn into the Home Depot and follow all the way around - thru parking lots, past HEB, etc until you get to the Ridge road stoplight. Turn left at the stoplight to get onto 471 and you'll save lots of time.

2) If you live a ways down 471 (closer toward the county line), from hwy 151, exit onto Wiseman and head WEST. Stay on Wiseman thru the lights at 1604 until you get to Talley Rd (Wiseman is a wonderful, 4-lane road). At Talley, turn right (north) until you get back to 471.

It would have been WONDERFUL if the developers had put an access road from WISEMAN to Alamo Ranch but they must have known we'd all use that road.
