My 6 year old calls them "spiky balls" - she was afraid of them until I picked one up one day and threw it at her...

True. Too much moss will compete with the oak tree foliage. Drive along Hwy 16 toward Bandera and you can see many trees (some that appear to be dead) with the moss on them.

I was wondering what those were, too. At first, I thought there were birds' nests in my trees.
