the airport totally missed last night's rain. My house easily got at least an inch and probably more. There was plenty of standing water on the roads at around 12:30 AM and the ground was still muddy all day today. I was happy to see it despite having to constantly clean dog paws..

40% chace of sever storms this afternoon.

The rain chances are quickly going down.. we don't have much to trigger widespread severe storms down here. Most of the action will remain further up north in North Texas and Oklahoma.

Meanwhile, we stay trapped in our sauna.

Yea i just saw the nws lowered the chance to 20% and removed sever mention right as the rain started. Just little shower that last about two mins but we have had 5 so far.

While our local nws removed the mention of severe the storm prediction center put us back in the slight risk are so heads up.

I've got to side with the NWS on this one. There is a dryline to our west, but it appears as most of the energy is well off to the north of our area.

As much as I want a storm here, I think we're SOL out of this one.

This is the best indicator for telling us what is going on in our atmosphere. Usually the data comes from radiosondes carried by weather balloons at launching sites across the country. Unfortunately for San Antonio, the closest launching sites are in Del Rio and in Corpus Christi. Therefore I prefer to check the RUC analysis which is essentially an interpolation of the data gathered from the latest balloon soundings and a rough estimate of what is happening over our area at this time.

Analyzing this specific image, it shows that there is a good deal of instability in the air meaning that whatever storms do pop up could cause some heavy downpours, plently of lightning, gusty winds, and possibly, but not likely, small hail.

As stated before, I really would tend to say that we most likely wont see anything here in town. The only thing that we have going to initiate some of these storms is the heat of the day and the dryline which is still well out to our west. As the sun sets, the dryline will retrograde westward again leaving us in this moist tropical airmass. Most of the storms that do pop up this evening will be along that dryline and will be of hit and miss variety.... but if you get caught under the storms, you'll be dealing with a doozy of a soaker!

Current radar shows most of the storms well off to our north at this hour.

I'm not a big fan of droughts myself either... but at least they do give us a long series of nice weather days.
