Well, I don't entirely agree with that...
I have forwarded my resume, via fax, via email, via snail mail, to nearly every insurance carrier in San Antonio, SEVERAL in Austin, and more than a handful in the Dallas area....
When I DO get an interview, the interviewer is often NEARLY young enough to be my grandchild... well, actually in between child and grandchild.....
AND I cannot learn why I don't get the jobs... but I am truly convinced it is age for these reasons:::;
1.) no one wants to supervise their Mom or Grandmother - no one
2.) EVEN THOUGH I am negotiable on salary and state so, they ALWAYS say "We can't pay you what you are accustomed to earning." To which I say, "And here in San Antonio, I will not necessarily need what I'm accustomed to earning." or something to that effect....
3.) Just a guess, but I think most of these younger managers don't want to hire someone that knows more than them... In fact, it's not just a guess; when I was still working, they avoided, in every fashion they could, to discuss a claim with me......
4.) I've moved around too much over the last 15 years; even though I have reasonable explanations for that, it doesn't look good....
I went to the TX unemployment office for a 'counseling session'; she was supposed to review my resume and a list of items I'd checked off for them (their form) and then discuss with me and present tips and possibly even job leads..... This young woman (I'm guessing 20 years or more my junior) kept looking at her watch and gave me not a single possible solution, not a single new strategy, not a single GUESS at why I'm having trouble.......
So, okay, next week, I am going BACK to Dollar General and Family Dollar yet again...
I don't even care anymore what I do... I just want to work and I surely would like to have some insurance before this aching tooth falls out and leaves me with a huge gap when I smile..... ($ General and Family $ didnt even call me for an interview in the past, btw....)
I went to the unemployment office, actually for help with my resume... do I dummy it down? spiff it up??? I am clueless......
and yes, I have this Independent Contractor gig..... one has dried up entirely, another is slim to nothing lately, and the third... ahhhh, I'm not really sure what's going on with that... no assignments for nearly two weeks.... I have my thoughts - I don't think it has anything to do with me; I think it has to do with the whole PROGRAM of using Independents - but won't get real detailed here.. who knows who might be listening, eh???
So, yes, young able-bodied, halfway (or more) bright, should be able to find a job.... Grandma ???? not so sure....
oh and BTW... my brother called this afternoon, not sure the full purpose of calling, his cell failed twice and he was in his car..... but he described all his retirement plans and all the paperwork he's completed to get things rolling.... DIRTY DAWG!!! LOL
