We too are moving to SA from Austin and just went through a home shopping experience last weekend and in the end, there was not a lot to choose from in the areas we were concentrating on. SA suburbs in my opinion need to get a reality check on the prices of their homes. Every home we looked at was consistently 30-40K more for the same home you can get in the Austin burbs. We looked at literally every neighborhood outside 1604 from Huebner down to 471. I don't know what your price range is but this is what we found:

Helotes has a subdivision called Iron Horse Canyon that is building on 1/2 acre lots, from the upper 300's.

Limestone Ranch off of I-10 builds on 1/2 acre lots, from low 400's

Timberwood Park - but the traffic is heavy in this area

Some of the older areas in North Central are on 1/2 acres but need updating.

Good Luck!

That's the challenge right there, OP. On such a big lot, you're likely to be far from schools and shopping unless you pay a premium for the location.

There are still a few half acre lots in my neighborhood with several 1/3 acre lots still available. Great North Central location near all the schools you need. Check out The Quarry at Iron Mountian. There are some really nice inventory homes currently available with lots of upgrades. The community is located off Hardy Oak just north of Sonterra BLVD.

I'd suggest somewhere in the Westover Hills area though I'm not sure if there's any half acre lots. Maybe future west on Potranco in the Stevens Ranch and Red Bird Ranch area. There will soon be lots of shopping, elementary, middle and high school and it's not far from the hospitals in Westover Hills.

Can you guys tell me some about the difference between San Antonio and Austin.
I'm a venezuelan immigrant that has lived in Missouri for 15 years and I like San Antonio (went there last year)

I'm hispanic, my first language is spanish, an electrical engineer, married and have 2 little kids.
I've heard Austin is good because of the high tech jobs, but I like San Antonio because it seems more layed back, family friendly and closer to Mexico (I'd like to take road trips to Mexico for my kids to practice their spanish)
