Where do young people/professionals/students congregate?
San Antonio seems to lack a distinct area where you can find large numbers of college students, young people, and young professionals. I'm not expecting anything like Austin, but does anyone know of any place like this?

Not really college students, but lots of "young" professionals in Southtown at any of the galleries/bars/restaurants. Very urban vibe.

All of the clubs, hookah bars, restaurants, and shopping areas here in NW-SA (near UTSA) are filled with students all the time.

That would be a result of the fact there aren't many young professionals here.
Once you adapt to the San Antonio lifestyle, it can be quite rewarding. I miss it dearly whenever I spend more than a couple days visiting the blackberry, twittering jungles.
I recommend not fighting the San Antonio lifestyle, but to take the Tao approach.

Hi trnmeon,
I'd agree with traficdogn that there is not a notable group of young professionals in this town. Tgannaway89, I don't think that the OP was referring to bumping into UTSA students at Walmart or at the H.E.B. at I-10 and DeZavala
You will not find that alive, vibrant, pulse of young professional vibe anywhere in this town. I'm waiting for someone to take the posters' suggestions (e.g., head into Southtown to the "galleries" and "bars") and come back to this forum and say, "Yup, found 'em, thanks!"
Not gonna happen.

I'm working on traficdogn's Tao approach. I think I could use that!

I was actually referring to the shopping and entertainment areas such as The Rim or The Shops at La Cantera. Stop by Sultan Cafe, Shisha Cafe, Cool Cafe, or Joe Momma's Coffee House which are all college student dominated hookah bars. The local nightclubs and cantina's are also popular. You probably don't make it by there much though. It certainly doesn't match up to that of Austin, but whos does. The good thing about Austin is that it is only an hour away for a visit Glad to know you do notice us while we are grocery shopping though.

To the OP:
One of the places that I've been impressed by in recent weeks is Azúca (Azúcar?) on south Alamo, at the northern tip of Southtown. The Friday happy hour is filled with young, well dressed types. It's actually a pretty good mix, all drawn by cheap mojitos and good bar food. 4-7pm. And, with a few drinks in you, stroll down through King William and the south end of the Riverwalk. A very nice afternoon!
The last time I was there (last week), I had drinks with: a radio station programmer; a national park service education coordinator; an architect; an HIV-prevention worker; an artist; a Current journalist; a Ph.D. student from Columbia University; and a few more that the mojitos caused me to forget (!).
There are plenty of other places, despite what the naysayers claim. Enjoy!

See 'em every day. I am one of them.
Wait. All those people I see and live amongst daily, they're just figments of my imagination.

My best answer would be: (I live, work, and play on the north side)
Swig North (although I can't stand how crowded it gets)
Back Porch
Kennedy's
Chicago Bar
New York Bar
Indigo Joe's (awesome reverse happy hour)
Houlihan's (another great reverse happy hour)
The Hangar
Rebar
Karma
V-Bar
Flying Saucer
Fox and the Hound
(I will also throw in Cowboys and Midnight Rodeo, even though I think they are ridiculous )
San Antonio definitely has a different vibe than Dallas or Houston. There is an insane amount of young professionals spread over various parts of these cities. I'll never forget the first time I went out in Dallas...it was at the clubhouse of an apartment complex (don't remember the name, but it was near Lovers Ln & 75). I think the clubhouse was an actual bar, called "The Club". They served alcohol like a normal bar would. I remember thinking...am I back in college at some frat party? That is exactly how it felt, but then I was told that all of these people were graduates and had "real" jobs.
Austin is its own animal. Nothing else is like 4th 5th and 6th Streets.
