Officially sanctioning drunk driving in SA?
Hopefully this is just WOAI screwing up a story.. The city can't possibly be this retarded, especially with the huge drunk driving problem it already has.

As usual, the print media has more detailed and well-explained coverage of this story that what you will find on TV. Express-News presents both sides of this issue - the DA's point of view that this will help reduce the court backlog and change behavior, and MADD's concerns that this will create loopholes in the legal system.

It's a brave position for our DA to take. One that could easily be painted by a future opponent as being soft on DUI offenses.
It strikes me that the added hoops she proposes to put in place will create administrative overhead in some other part of the legal system, even though they help clear court dockets.
It's probably a good idea for her to propose this now, as the number of DUI cases will increase by a bunch if the police chief gets his way on DUI checkpoints.

I read the article in the paper today and woai definitely should take down their page because she totally screwed up by leaving out a LOT of details.. I especially like the part about not being able to drink at all and submitting to tests. That will eliminate most of the serious problems because those fools will probably risk taking the hit instead of giving up their precious alcohol.

They've been hitting the breath test pretty hard today. For those that refuse they get a search warrant signed by a judge and you get a blood test instead. The story is really convoluted. After awhile it appears that you really don't get away with a thing. You're still out up to $10,000 first time around.
