I still say it's the drivers and not the construction/amount of traffic that's the problem here.. A small pack of the mental midgets here can screw up traffic heading in the opposite direction of the rush hour traffic. In the morning I'm heading west on 151 while everyone else is heading east and there's almost always two knuckle draggers clogging up both lanes going about 55-60 and they pretty much refuse to get over.

Amen! The "gagglers" are what are causing all the problems. Texas Law does dictate that traffic must keep to the right...

Quote:
§ 545.051. DRIVING ON RIGHT SIDE OF ROADWAY.
(a) An operator on a roadway of sufficient width shall drive on the right half of the roadway, unless:
(1) the operator is passing another vehicle;
(2) an obstruction necessitates moving the vehicle left of the center of the roadway and the operator yields the right-of-way to a vehicle that:
(A) is moving in the proper direction on the unobstructed portion of the roadway; and
(B) is an immediate hazard;
(3) the operator is on a roadway divided into three marked lanes for traffic; or
(4) the operator is on a roadway restricted to one-way traffic.
(b) An operator of a vehicle on a roadway moving more slowly than the normal speed of other vehicles at the time and place under the existing conditions shall drive in the right-hand lane available for vehicles, or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, unless the operator is:
(1) passing another vehicle; or
(2) preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.
(c) An operator on a roadway having four or more lanes for moving vehicles and providing for two-way movement of vehicles may not drive left of the center line of the roadway except:
(1) as authorized by an official traffic-control device designating a specified lane to the left side of the center of the roadway for use by a vehicle not otherwise permitted to use
the lane;
(2) under the conditions described by Subsection (a)(2); or
(3) in crossing the center line to make a left turn into or out of an alley, private road, or driveway.

Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.

I wish this law was enforced more stringently, as it would relieve a lot of the problems of driving around San Antonio!

Cheers! M2

I honestly don't feel sorry for people that live in Stone Oak. They are choosing to live there and deal with the traffic day in and out. There are plenty of places they could live and not be stuck in traffic all the time.
People who do not live in the Stone Oak area always say the traffic is so bad...this is not the case...There are so many ways to get in and out of Stone Oak...you just got to find all the shortcuts...You can get out of Stone Oak during the morning rush hour is less than 10 mins...from the middle of stone oak to 1604. The lights have been change to allow this. This happend last summer. Also the new High School will open next fall..so that will make the traffic much better in the Stone Oak area. The main reason why traffic is dense in the SO is because all the schools are in the SO area...High School and 4 to 5 elementary schools...

281 is bad...but past sonterra going north...they will fix this with the toll road construction.

Blanco Rd past the super target is bad...they are going to fix this to 4 lanes starting in the next few months...all the way to borgfield road.

There is talk of making Stone Oak Blvd...3 lanes on each side...this will help on the traffic...plus there are a few intersections that need some stop lights.

Knights Crossing and Stone Oak intersection is also a busy spot...but there are shortcuts around this....Remember the SO area does not have many east west roads...like most of San Antonio and Austin...everything is most North to South....ie blanco, Stone Oak and 281....all are north south running.

OK...but it takes you 10 minutes to get from your home to 1604. It takes me 15 minutes to get from my house to the parking lot at my office...and that includes having to use 2 highways to get there.

I have driven from my office to the Stone Oak area recently and it takes at least 45 minutes for me to get there, and its an additional its an additional 10+ miles (depending where in stone oak you're going). Not even taking to account the mileage effects of being stuck in traffic, I drive at least 100 miles less. That's 5 gallons of gas less a week that I use, $15+ dollar a week in savings (at least $60 a month less in gas that I spend)...not to mention the environmental aspects of reduced pollution, etc.

I think if you live AND work in stone oak its a great spot. But I don't understand why people choose to live there and work downtown...or even in medical center. I really just don't get it.

So, I'll still take my location vs. yours thankyouverymuch.

San Antonio traffic is a walk-in-the-park compared to Austin. I mean, c'mon, we're building roads/highways nonstop. Austin, man, they're doing nothing about their traffic situation, zip, zilch, nada...I was stuck in traffic for two hours the other day while visiting IKEA, and this was like 2:30 in the afternoon, once I hit MLK, forget it, I thought I was in Los Angeles gridlock, thank god for my sirius satellite or I would've gone insane - jeez!

They didn't tell you ?? It's a state law that if you're leaving Austin to go anywhere else out of town you are required to leave NLT 1330 hrs. Otherwise just pull off and get a room somewhere there for the night.
