I've been looking over the pictures of San Antonio while planning our possible move there, and it seems as if the only green is along the River Walk. Is that only because it's winter? Do any of you have photos of green areas other than there that you care to share with me? We're moving from Washington state and I know it's going to be a climate shock, but I do want to know there is more than one place I can go to see some green.

Unfortunately, yes, the River Walk is the only place you will find the color green. The rest of San Antonio is a dull, dreary listless brown that will suck the life out of your soul.

My hair is turning gray. Maybe I do belong in San Antonio!

Nope, San Antonio has no parks. No great urban parks, like Brackenridge. No natural areas like McAlister or Government Canyon. It certainly wouldn't have a spring-fed pool at San Pedro Springs. The main North expressway (us 281) certainly doesn't cut through the Olmos Basin where all you can see is tree tops and has been named one of the most scenic urban expressways. San Antonio has none of those at all.

Often the highlight of my day is seeing a UPS truck for the variation in the color brown that it provides, compared to the local flora.

Green is a seaonal color that is only found in the arid parts of the world when rain is actually falling or people have high water bills.

You can find green all around, but nothing like what you are used to in Washington state. By comparison you will even find the Riverwalk very dry and dusty.

As I have found in my travels, do not try to make everywhere else look like where you came from, try instead to enjoy what those areas have to offer and revel in those differences. You will find that you will come to love the dry plains just as much, albeit in different ways, as you do the forests you are used to.

It's not gonna be near as green as WA. That said, it's pretty green by TX standards. And, no, the Riverwalk is not the only green area (though as a public park, it trumps just about anything else in the US). For instance, Brackenridge Park is just 2 miles to the north............and is 400 acres of golf course and century live oaks.

Good. I'm glad it has none of that. (When is April Fools day over, anyway?)

Good point. I lived for 25 years in Las Vegas, so I know all about dry and dusty. But there were some areas there that I could go to when I wanted to see green (and I'm not talking about the casinos, ha ha). I'm just hoping to find such an oasis in San Antonio. (We're moving because my body isn't absorbing vitamin D from foods...my doctor says I have to get it from the sun, so back I go to the desert. )
