If you think food prices are high now, wait until the trucking industry flexes its muscle by way of a strike. They came really close this week, and if diesel prices don't moderate somewhat I think it's a distinct possibility that they'll pull off the road and just "sit" in protest.

I was at the new HEB Plus at Blanco and 1604 yesterday. I've been there half a dozen times and still can't get used to the new layout of that store. It also has much more specialty merchandise (esoteric brands, imported items) than it had before it was rebranded a Plus. When I see a $5 bag of imported pasta there, suddenly the $2 bag of the familiar brand on the shelf next to it doesn't seem so outrageous.

We've been buying alot of store brand stuff to cut corners. Also not making as many "fabulous/gourmet" type meals at home.

I actually buy a lot of groceries at Walmart/Target and get produce, meat, and seafood from HEB. It is a pain but it saves a ton of money.

I do most of my grocery shopping at either Walmart or Sams and get the produce and burger HEB. It's easier to buy in bulk and then freeze what you don't use. Makes me wish I had a deep freeze instead of just the freezers that come with the fridges.
One thing I don't get is why HEB charges $1 more for milk than Sam's or Walmart. I didn't think their wholesale prices would be that much more that the big box marts. Bananas went up to .40+ / lb the last time I was there. I'm sure there's other items that went up just because of the gas price issue. Now they say the price of corn will go up, so look out for all things corn related, to include meat, poultry and dairy products to go up up up...
Oh, also buy my gas at Sams - usually much cheaper than anywhere else.

Eggs, a loaf of bread is suppose to go up to $4.00. I guess I will become a vegetarian. I can't imagine being a family of five today. the grocery bill must be at least $1200.00 per month
