TWC RR which router are you using (Nacogdoches, Cisco: to buy, price)

We are getting TWC RR installed on Friday. I didn't select the option to pay them $9.99 for the wireless modem. So I will buy my own wireless router.

for anyone who has TWC RR in the NE area nr Nacogdoches Rd, which wireless router are you using, and what are your speeds like??

I have RR and they aren't charging me $10 a month for the router. I pay $50/month for "turbo charged roadrunner" and it's fast enough...my average is usually about 16 mbps download and 1.85 mpbs upload. I've had service with them for a year and three months. During that time they replaced the router once because I wasn't getting the speed I was paying for, and that took care of the problem.

Wow, $10 for a router stinks. I have the cable modem box that's provided with service (the one that is connected to the cable), then I have a wireless router connected to that so I can hook up wirelessly my other toys (laptop, etc.) I have a netgear top of the line wireless router since routers can vary in their efficiency depending on your room walls, etc. If you have a lot of devices that rely on the wireless router, I recommend a higher grade of wireless router. Many great models available online.

btw the $9.9 is monthly not a one time fee. Hence the reason I opt to buy my own wireless router and just pay for the $39.99 RR turbo service.

I know they offer different deals at different times...on my bill it says $39.99 road runner service and $9.99 road runner turbo, plus a dollar and change of tax. (I used to have Grande so I'm used to reading the bill carefully.) I had my own modem, but since they weren't charging extra for the router, I decided to use theirs. I asked recently if the bill would decrease if I bought my own modem, and they said no.

I got the basic RR service and consistently get over 10Mbps, but I'm in the far north area. I didn't select their wireless router, but a used one I already had (Belkin brand, paid about $60) and have absolutely no problems with it. I think $10/month its just too much...

$10/month will buy you a really good router in a year or so. Only way that could be considered a good deal would be if you were just trying the wireless thing out for a little while to see if you liked it and didn't want to buy a router you might not keep for long or end up using.
If you plan on keeping the router, get a Linksys or Cisco if you can afford it. Netgear has some good products and D-Link and Belkin would be last choice for me. Our servers have a lot of Belkin KVMs attached to them and to say I'm unimpressed with their quality would be an understatement.

120$ for a router??

maybe for an entry level cisco, but a router that the average consumer would use.. they dont need a 120$ router

A router is a router is a router, it's just a matter of what features it provides. Netgear makes good quality stuff. Linksys has gone downhill a bit since the Cisco buyout and branding, but it's still fairly solid if overpriced. You get what you pay for, and if you're not interesting in tweaking it a basic router will be just fine.

Just make sure the router supports the protocol you want (N or G, N being the fastest if you have the client adapter for it).
