I have done Karaoke at ME and CA on Perrin Beitel, which is a really good place to take a crowd of people. I didn't like it when I went with just a few people. The drinks are decently priced. I usually have to be a little tipsy before I start singing. They play everything from 80's, 90's, country, and present music.
I've also done Karaoke at Half-Time Sports Bar in Live Oak off Pat Booker. They do more rock music with a little bit of country. They have cheap beer, which always works for me. Further down the street in Universal City is Billy D's and they do Karaoke on Wednesday nights. It's always packed in there and you have to get there early to get a good song in. This one is the most varied music I have seen done in a night. From R&B to rock to oldies to modern country to old country to rap to jazz. It's a fun night, but a lot of good singers go.
On Austin Highway there is a place called Rascals, but I didn't like it too much there. Nobody was there except for my crew and that gets boring.
