I missed this topic first time around. I had no idea Joan Crawford was born here.
I looked up her bio and it says she was born as Lucille (Luciel LeSeur) to Anna and Thomas LeSeur in 1905. She had an older brother by the name of Hal LeSeur and an older sister named Daisy, who died young.
I looked up Anna and Thomas LeSeur in the 1900 census and they were indeed in San Antonio. At that time, Anna was 20 and Thomas was 21....and they had been married 4 years. That meant they were 16 and 17ish when they married??
So much for young love, because "dad" left Anna with the children either while she was pregnant with Joan, or right after.
In 1900, they were renting a place at 313 Cameron St. downtown. It's possible they moved to Cherry St. There are sources to confirm that....just not online.
Anna was remarried by 1910 and living with Hal and "Luciel" and her husband Henry Cassin/Casson in Lawton Oklahoma.
As an interesting caveat to the "no more wire hangers" legacy, the 1900 census indicated that her father's profession was a "laundryman".

I'm not kidding!
