Pola Negri spent her later years with her friend and companion Margaret West.
They lived in Olmos Park in the West home. She used to get her hair done at Wallace’s in a private room on McCullough.
Us local Olmos Park kids regarded her as an eccentric who drove a huge, outdated Cadillac and wore turbans. I did not know the Valentino and silent screen star connection until my Grandmother pointed her out to me at Frost Bros. on Houston Street.

I was reading a bio on her just now, and found it very interesting about the drama surrounding her attending Valentino's funeral. that she played up her emotions just for the cameras. here are some photos from that event. Thanks for the correction on where she lived. What is the "West" home?

The West home- the home of Margaret West. She was an heiress of an old guard South Texas and prominent family. This Olmos Park home was large.
Margaret West might have passed away before Pola Negri. If so, it makes sense that she moved to smaller digs in or near Chateau Dijon.
Chateau Dijon was, and maybe still is, a very posh place. I think Woody Harrelson’s father killed a judge there.

Don't forget O'Neil Ford, FAIA, sometimes (often) referred to as the "Texas Architect of the 20th Century". His work is all over the United States and includes Trinity University, the UTSA, Tower of the Americas, Hemisfair and Skidmore College in upstate New York to name a few of more than 2,000 projects.
