Singles....where to go?
Is there any place in San Antonio that caters to singles around middle age (or more) that isn't a "dive", maybe a little class and quality people? Best with Jazz or blues or ballroom....(blue bubble is closing) Forget computer dating....everybody tends to fib too much. It can be a night club or just a singles club. I'm getting lonely. How about it?

When I was a 30-something single new to SA, I met people by playing soccer, playing ultimate frisbee, hanging out at First Friday events, local museums, Blue Star and Beethoven's (tho back then it was mostly 80 yr olds, which meant the few young ones of us connected very easily, now it's a different scene). Through all these and more, over time, I met lots of people, made some good friends, and met my husband.
There are lots of club and bars with lots of singles, but honestly I never found those terribly interesting for meeting people (in other countries I've made loads of friends at the local pub, but here, the bars just don't have the same atmosphere as a local pub).

What location are you looking for?
Flying Saucer at Huebner is always packed... with drink specials every night. Most of the people that go there seem to be young professionals.
Houlihans is a hot spot, Kona Grill at La Cantera... But these aren't really "clubs."

I should also add that once I moved to Southtown (I was briefly living in Medical and NW), I also starting meeting lots of people in my neighborhood.
I also second Flying Saucer as a fun hangout, although I prefered it on the weeknights rather than the weekends. The few times I went on a Friday or Sat night, the crowd was *very* young (college aged...barely 21). Weeknights seemed to have more working professional types.

It's been awhile since I played. Do a yahoo search for yahoo groups on ultimate in San Antonio. They used to have an active group, always looking for new members. They went to tournaments all over, but also very casual fun playing. I'm only so-so, but they welcomed me quite happily (maybe because I brought beer for the post-game ).
They played at the Med Center fields on Wed nights, but were looking for another field. There's also a group that played at McAllister park.

Just be careful at the Flying Saucer. There are some really shady characters who hang out there. My husband Pat (soon to be Ex), got very drunk there on many occasions, totalled his car on the way home one night, and slept with the women who hang out there... they are gold-diggers looking for unhappily married men. So beware... but if that's who you want to hang out with, go for it! I'm sure it's fun or he would not have been going there every night.

Whoa...that's horrible!
I've been going to the Saucer here and there on Mondays with some buddies and have always had a great time. The pretzels there are REALLY good.
On another note, I DJ at LeBlanc on Saturdays and the place has loads of single women walking around. The music is all dance and the place stays open afterhours, just a heads up. If you can stomach dance music, you should have a great time.

Where is this place? We're going home for a visit in July and wouldn't mind hitting a club or four while there.

It's at Callaghan and 410, which used to be NV, which used to be Arruba, which used to be Level...etc. etc.
Barfly is across the parking lot too, so its fun to start your night there then head over. The place gets packed after 2:30am.
