Hello, this is going to be off the normal radar, but I was hoping some folks in here could help.

I have this friend in her mid-30's who I know has always had aspirations about learning to play the piano. She shared with me this poem she wrote a while back about playing the piano in an outdoor garden type environment. You know, all the usual girly stuff. Birds, sunlight dancing on the keys...yada, yada, yada.

Anyway, said person is having a birthday soon, so here's my thought. If I could locate a piano in a public place in a tea garden or something like that, then I could get a piano instructor there to give her a lesson outdoors ala the experience she wrote about in her poem.

Sappy, I know. But I figure the hard part would be locating a piano in the right setting.

I just haven't seen such a thing. I was wondering if you guys and gals and others would know of such a place.

Thanks in advance...

I know of a great view from a youth camp chapel in Comfort, TX. (With piano)

I would check with conference centers and clubhouses, then refine your view and amenities. (How fancy do you want / can afford?). A church or camp can probably be very cheap. The clubhouse at Comanche Trace (Kerrville) has nice view and amenities, and likely has a piano you could lease mid-day?. A Scenic Hotel Lobby / conf room is another option.

Likely many private homes will be available too. Talk to a local piano dealer (Steinway or similar). They often host events at customer homes, and may have a lead. Check with local chamber music / classical groups who may host private venues.

Piano teachers have ideas & connections as well?

I would fly to Yellowstone or Yosemite or another National Park Lodge lobby! B'day to remember!..... Upscale Senior Center would have piano and she could sign up for her future rest home....(B'-day to remember)...

It's a sweet idea, but how will she feel about having a lesson in public? Some people would be too shy to have a lesson with strangers around.

Sweet of you, but is ONE lesson worth the trouble?
It looks like she wants to learn how to play, THEN play the piano in a romantic outdoors environment.

Perhaps you can locate a piano teacher and pay for the lessons? Then buy her a piano (used pianos are not that expensive) and ... if you really want to proceed with making her dream coming true - build her a gazebo (kits are available on Amazon) and set up the piano on her backyard so she could enjoy playing outdoors with all the birds and butterfly's around her...
