I could swear that in some other countries they didn't outlaw panhandling but the act of giving to them. Took care of the problem, from what I read.

The city of Boerne recently enacted a regulation prohibiting panhandlers. They must have a permit at a cost of $150 or so to conduct their " business". I have not seen much activity since then.

Default Panhandling

Here is my 2 cents on this, i work damn hard for my money so why should i give it to someone who spends all day holding a sign asking for money? I know the economy is bad and all but i have to wake up early(as much as i hate waking up early) and goto work and honestly bust my butt for 8 hours so NO i am not giving someone money just because they are holding a sign stating what problems they have. I have problems too but do i hold a sign out for everyone to see, NO i don't. How did the panhandlers get down here to begin with? It is weird how there were none for the longest time and now all of a sudden some pop up. I have seen the same damn beggers outside of Lackland for the last couple of years. STOP giving to these people, if you want to help call them a cab to the unemployment office instead of giving them money. Sorry if this seems mean but it is honest.
Thanks

The only reason this happens is because of the naive and gullible people who DO fall for the scams from fake hobos at intersections and parking lot beggers....if EVERYONE would stop feeding them money, it would STOP!
If you want to give to the needy...give to the churches or other organizations. In the mean time...get a gun license...one day you'll stop your own car jacking.

In Texas you do not need a license to carry a concealed weapon in your car, thanks to the Castle Doctrine laws that took effect last September...

But, that said, this city does not suffer from the number of car jackings that other places do. Maybe it is because of the new laws, but just last night I was talking to my mother who lives in Florida and she mentioned how many car jackings her city has and I was surprised as it is an uncommon occurance here in San Antonio. Still, it is always better to be prepared...

Cheers! M2

Those bums are getting on my nerves. My wife and I were on our way to pick up dinner driving down Potranco going into the loop when we noticed one of them going over to the Valero trying to talk to a lady and her daughter in the side where you can sit near the pay phone. My wife told me the lady looked very bothered. Anyway, on the way back I had to stop at the Valero so I parked in a manner in which you could see that area. By this time there were 4 bums and no lady with her daughter. 2 men and 2 women. My wife noticed one of the guys with a big wad of cash giving about half to the other guy and one of the ladies going to what seemed like a Ford Taurus or Contour type vehicle which was parked on the side of the Valero. I know a whole bunch of ones can look like a lot of money but c’mon!! Get a job and get off of our street corner.

I never have cash on me in this debit card era. And when I get my drinking water refills at the HEB I always have to take out extra cash from a purchase I made in the store. I think next time I'll ask one of those newly located pan handlers on Potranco and 1604 for a couple bucks. You know they're good for it. And if they don't give it to me, I'll give them attitude.

Great idea!!! We should ALL do that!! And spread the word to all our neighbors! Maybe if they got a dose of their own medicine several times a day they'd rethink their area.
