Bad news for one of the most congested highways in the city. Only a couple days after the opening of new ramps on the cities newest interchange (281 and 410) some parts of 281 have been closed due to an accident that damaged a support beam. An 18-wheeler got stuck, overturned, and struck the support beam. There hasn't been an announced date as to when it will re-open, but TXDOT has said a crane will be used to remove the truck and engineers will examine the beam.

I was amazed that this accident was in the morning paper and still a factor this morning, according to the traffic reports. Hopefully the truck didn't move or weaken the beam, because having to bypass northbound 281 at Airport Blvd. for weeks would be a nightmare.

That explains a lot.... I got caught in that yesterday and wondered why traffic was at a standstill at 10pm.

Yeah, that truck completely shattered one of the columns for the bridge. They had to shore it up with steel braces built from I-beams. They'll have to rebuild that column in the next couple of weeks. Pictures of the column are here:

OMG I SAWW THAT!!!!
I read in the paper tho that it wont be affecting traffic anymore. They have the support beams up already and the repair will be off to the side (on the shoulder) so that it wouldn't affect traffic anymore. They'll be spending the next 2 weeks fixing that bridge
