I've had and enjoyed both Augie's & Two Bros...but I think I'm leaning towards Two Bros...
They both could serve their meat warmer....esp the ribs....
Augie's have sweet baked beans which I'm used to eating with my BBQ and not traditional pintos served in TX...
Two Bros potato salad is authentic and very good, the best I've had...
Brisket is good at both, could be warmer at both...
Augie's creamed corn is sweet and yummy, but the mac n cheese at Two Bros wins out for me, cheese had a nice thick sauce that stuck to the noodles, Augie's tends to be runny...
I was not overly impressed with the ribs at Two Bros, it was good but I think the rub could use just a tanch more salt. So ribs over at Augie's wins for me...I'll have to give the other rib option at Two Bros a chance. Beef ribs at Augie's VERY tasty, not too meaty
I'd highly recommend both, the grape koolaid & sweet tea over at Two Bros seals the deal for me

I love Augie's it is the best I have had in SATX. I have not tried Two Bros yet but will. I must say, the absolute best BBQ in the area is up in New Braunfels. Not many people know, but Coopers BBQ opened a second location off of the N 46 loop across from Gruene Harley late last year. The original Coopers is in Llano, and constantly wins Best BBQ in TX awards. Texas Monthly and all kinds of magazines have given it raving reviews over the years. Personally, and I know plenty of people who will agree, but it is the best BBQ I have ever had, and nothing comes close. It is even hard to eat at Augie's anymore.
Next on my list is The Salt Lick in Driftwood, south of Austin. It is supposed to be great too, but I have friends that have been to both and go with Coopers as far as being better.
Check out Coopers, nothing else comes close!

Nice try, but you're way off here (there's nothing like a TX BBQ debate!).
Cooper's is good, but is generally considered to be a notch below Kreuz Market, Smitty's, City Market (in Luling), and Louis Mueller's. Even Texas Monthly's most recent BBQ edition notes that the quality at Cooper's has continued to decline.
Again, it's good BBQ, but not in the upper-echelon.

Like I said, it is the best I have ever had. I am from Houston and have not been in SA quite a year yet. I have not heard of the others you mention, but will definitely check them out. Thanks for the suggestions!

My favorite is Coopers, but only because I haven't been to the ones in Lockhart yet. SA still does not have anything close (Augies is possible).

Has anyone eaten the BBQ at Bun n Barrel on Austin Hwy? I was tempted to try it, but I couldn't smell any smoke. I went with the grilled chicken and it was really good.
I wish I knew who did their stained concrete floor. It had a good look.

I finally made it to Two Bros. this week. Both are very good and I would be hard-pressed to choose a favorite between the two of them. Two Bros. reminds me a lot of Rudy's.

Thinking about taking the family to Augies - can anyone answer a few questions for me?
If the dining area indoors or outdoors? a/c?
I see they opened a cigar bar there - is the smoke from them in the eating area?
Is it wheelchair accessible to the dining area? Got 2 in wheelchairs in our party of 11 that will be going.
How far is it from the Zoo? Walking distance with small kids?
Sounds HEAVENLY!

Dining is indoors (and I guess outdoors although we've never ate outside), but the indoors area is very limited (6-8 tables that hold 4-5 people at the most). It is a/c'd inside.
I believe the cigar bar is out back and nowhere near the eating area. I have never seen it, but I can assure you it is far removed from where you eat!
A party of 11 would have to sit outside, there is not enough room inside and I doubt they would reserve any tables for you. I would call them beforehand (210 735-0088) and ask how they think best to handle such a large party. Also, wheelchair accessibility would be difficult inside, it is a really small place with steps.
It is not too far from the Zoo, less than a half mile straight down St Mary's Street, and there is a sidewalk the entire way on the Bracken Park side of the street (there are steps on the other side). It might be a tad too long of a walk for very young children on a very hot day (like the kind we've been having), but it is walkable. The sidewalk is about half shaded, the rest is in the direct sun which bears down heavily this time of year. If you are coming from the Zoo, bring water as it would help; but there is ample parking so driving down would probably be the better plan!
