*Culebra Road close to Downtown, between Bandera and I-10*

I noticed a while back that the whole right side of the road way (if you're heading east toward 10) is all torn up and cleared out or something. Does anyone know what's going on with this? Are they epanding the road? Better yet- are they doing something like they're doing at 410 and Bandera w/ the stack ramps??

Spur 421 (Bandera and Culebra between Loop 410 and I-10) is being widened to a six lane divided arterial with curbs, sidewalks, and bike lanes. No, there won't be any changes to the Culebra/I-10 interchange.

but I thought Culebra was already 6 lanes + a turn lane. In fact I just drove down there a few hours ago and I was wondering the same thing: if it's already 7 lanes, what are they doing? making it 9? I've never even heard of that wide of an arterial....

but 6 you say, well there you go

Culebra is six lanes (plus a center turn lane) only between Zarzamora and I-10; the rest is just four lanes (plus a center turn lane). This project will make the entire corridor six lanes, plus add sidewalks and bike lanes and improve drainage.

A short section of Fredericksburg is eight lanes (including the center turn lane), and Westheimer in Houston is also eight lanes.

Question Culebra Road - From Grissom to Loop 410 and possibly further

Understand what the project is - does anyone have any idea how long this is going to take. The intersection of Culebra/Grissom/Tezel is a bear during rush hours!

I believe it will be 2-3 years. If I remember correctly.

Yes, that intersection is a pain in the butt.

It's come a long way since 20 years ago. OMG it could take you close to an hour to get from Culebra/410 out to say, Emerald Valley. It was miserable.

This, of course, is a different project than the OP asked about. In any case, it is currently estimated that this project (Culebra from 410 to Grissom) will be completed in June 2010.

Does anyone have a link to more info on this? We live right off Culebra just before Old Grissom road, and we were curious what would happen to the sidewalks when they expand the road. My hubby is wheelchair bound, and he was able to use the sidewalks to go right out of our neighborhood to the shopping center beside us. I am wondering, are they doing sidewalks the entire length of Culebra? I hope so!

*since this is off the original post, should I ask in a separate topic?*

Is there a website that lists the details on SA's road improvements, and their schedules?
