If a group is quarantined and then another person presents with the virus, the whole quarantine period should be extended 14 days. The clock gets reset with each case (it should), but it isn't. We have people testing inconclusive and later testing positive. We still don't know ALL the ways this can transmit or how long it lives outside the host, nor do we know how many times it's mutated and how well it's adapting to changing environments.

And yeah, I got out of that briefing that although one case was confirmed, there will be more, perhaps 4-5 more.

The whole cruise ship fiasco was another mishandling. Note that the cases on the Diamond Princess continue to increase. No one on that ship has been allowed to leave. This is just creating some sort of floating petrie dish, a hyper-concentrated form of the virus that would be similar to something that would present in say a small, localized community with little to no population influx. So I understand those on the ship were kept there so as to not infect Japan, but now we have individuals who probably have a strengthened version of the virus that either has more severe symptoms or spreads more rapidly. Again, floating petrie dish.

It just seems there is alot of confusion as to how to handle this. Again, until the unknowns are known, it should be with the most strict protocol, but I don't see that happening.
There is at this point no evidence that the virus is mutating in a way that makes it more dangerous.

Coronaviruses do not mutate at the rate that influenza viruses do.

San Antonio ready to receive quarantined passengers from Diamond Princess cruise ship.

The flight to San Antonio is expected to depart from Tokyo Monday, Feb. 17 at 1:25 a.m. JST and will land in San Antonio Sunday, Feb. 16 at 9:11 p.m.

HHS says no evacuated personnel will be transferred to any DOD installation if they test positive for the novel coronavirus.
Anyone that tests positive or becomes symptomatic will be transferred to an off-base facility regulated by the CDC, according to officials.

Methodist Hospital | Texsan continues to be a safe place to receive the highest quality of care, and concerned San Antonians are encouraged to visit CDC.gov/inCoV for additional information.
Patients found to be positive for coronavirus will be privately escorted to a hospital in an ambulance equipped with protective coverings and a highly-trained staff, wearing protective gear.

14 passengers off the Diamond Princess test positive enroute to US. Headline does not reveal whether the sick were quarantined at Travis AFB in California or at Kelly or a combination of the two.

We are barely getting started ouside if China. Hold on to your hats. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride. All those crazy preppers start to not look so crazy now. I’m worried about the impact to society as a whole. Imagine if it gets to the point of china quarantine practices ? It will be caos on the streets, Americans are not used to so much hardship and have a tendency to snap (just looks t road rage incidents ). The caos might be worse then the virus itself. Hope I’m wrong about this.

Ammunition, cigarettes and alcohol will be the most valuable commodities in a worst case scenario.
