Grass mats
I don't really know what they are called but they roll out and already have the grass seed in them. Where would I find something like this on the far N or NW side? I would settle for the already grown grass mats but everywhere I have gone, they are all dried out and look terrible. Any advice? lawncare really isn't my thing. We want to get something down before the big storms this weekend.

I would like to know that too. Although not moving into our house for a couple more months that would be a good option for us and may be less expensive than sod! (course we may have to delay "planting" them til early fall due to the heat) I know that you're talking about though. I've seen that they have used this exact thing around some of the areas of the new Alamo Ranch shopping center being built.

Yes, well my husband told me about them and then sent me on a wild goose chase all over yesterday to find them. Home Depot does NOT have them right now, they said they get them in but then they sell out really fast. I am on hold w/ Lowe's right now and I am planning on checking out the grass place on 1604. (I think it is between Culebra and Bandera?)

I don't know. The sod that Home Depot had was St. Augustine (didn't have much of it) and then some other stuff that was a lot thinner. Can you tell I don't have a green thumb! I am definately the wrong person for this job.

Yes, there is a sod or "grass" place on the north side of 1604 between Culebra and Bandera. If you go there, let me know what they have. I noticed it because I figured I would go there when the time came to buy grass or sod. I would bet they have a better quality than HD or Lowes???

Why not try some of that roll out grass that they use on some sports fields. It usually looks pretty good even in dry weather. It must be grown in Houston because they call it Astro Turf.

HA!!! Funny man!!!
Ya know what we've noticed seems to not be available out here (or at least it's rarely used) is "Hydro Seed". It was used quite a bit in CA when we lived there, especially on hillsides. And new home developments used it quite a bit on the front lawns. Some kind of mixture w/grass seed that is just sprayed on to the area. It was awesome! Our house was hydro seeded on the front just before we moved in, and we had sod put down in the back. The front lawn was MUCH nicer than the back! (Both bermuda.) And it was much less expensive than sod. Cool stuff, don't know what the scoop with it is as to why it's not used around here.
Anyway, hope you find those seed mats, luckygreeniii. I'd love to know how they work out.

The state uses that hydroseed, Jules--and my husband is always ticked because we don't know where to get it. It's amazing! Must be something us taxpayers can't afford when we're buying it for ourselves.

Not sure if its what youre looking for, they're just the squares, but we used to get em at a place (cant remember name) near 35 and Rittiman. It would be going south on 35, exit Rittiman and its on access road.
