Default What is exactly is the vistor's tax? (Ref: Wold class performing arts center)

I just got finished reading some of the posts on the World Class Performing Arts center. Wasn't sure if I should ask my question or there or start another one here:

I don't really like the commericials. "The tax paid for primarlity by tourists". The tax is mostly hotles and rental cars.

Primarily? Mostly?..What are they leaving out?

I just moved to Live Oak. Is this a San Antonio vote or a Bexar County vote?

Thanks

Bexar County... It consists of:

1.75 percent hotel occupancy tax
5 percent short-term motor vehicle tax

It does affect non-tourists who use hotels or rental cars.... I'm a little surprised that they did not choose to apply the rental car tax only to cars picked up at the Airport.

You know, when you go to a hotel and get a room for $150 per night or a rental car for $25 per day, but end up paying $25.00 over the quoted price in "taxes"???? That is one of them squeezed into the "taxes" coverall. (And if you don't travel much, it is kinda like your cell phone bill....$69 per month for the plan but after all the taxes you pay $105 per month for that $69 pre month fee).

In November 1999, Bexar County voters approved a 1.75% hotel occupancy tax and a 5% short-term motor vehicle rental tax, which were used to build the AT&T Center. These taxes are authorized by the Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 334 - Sports and Community Venues.

The taxes are due to expire in 2009, and local leaders saw their renewal as an opportunity to fund improvements to the AT&T Center and arts venues, as well as build some new amateur athletic facilities.

The pro-tax campaign can be found at A.C.T. For San Antonio
