I've been really happy with Aveeda Salons, in particular: K Charles and Co K Charles & Co is a full service Aveda Lifestyle Salon in San Antonio, Texas.. They have a few locations and stylists are rated and costs are based upon their experience. You can ask for a Master stylist if you want color however if you ask for a Senior stylist a Master stylist will oversee the work. Also, since your having your hair dyed you will probably really liked Aveeda dyes. Before I had my hair colored by Aveeda my hair was like straw Aveeda dyes are really gentle and environmentally friendly. Also the K Charles salons have a nice spa like feel to them and everyone there seems pretty up to date.
I don't know about the other location, but I am not impressed with the one off of Stone Oak. I had my haircut by a master stylist and told her exactly what I wanted. I told her I wanted a razor cut, and that did not even happen. It was the worst haircut I have ever had. I even had my daughter's hair cut by some one there (at the same time I had mine). She was 4 at the time and it was her first hair cut. She sat perfectly still and I only wanted a simple straight across cut (trim). Her hair came out crooked.
I paid and walked out without saying a word. I knew if I had opened my mouth, nothing but bad words would be coming out.
I am still looking for someone, and have not had my haircut since.
(and yes, I was shouting... ) I've read thru this thread and all the previous threads on this subject and I'm so frustrated!!! Don't know who to call.
The last 3 times I've had my hair cut, it has been NOTHING like the cut in the picture I've brought in! I understand that my hair will never look "just like" the picture, but am I being unrealistic in expecting that at least it will be "cut" like the picture? The last time I had it cut, it turned out about 2 inches shorter in front and 2 inches longer in back. The "shape" was nothing like the picture. And of these 3 times, 1 was a recommendation from a previous thread (not naming any names), 1 was a "master stylist" at a high end mall salon (their highest designation ~ and NOT cheap), and 1 was just a normal salon. Best cut I've had in this past year is the one I did to fix the crummy cut I got at the "normal" salon!
So, my question is ~ has anyone who submitted a recommendation on this or any of the previous threads had luck with bringing in a picture and getting it CUT like the picture? (Or any new rec's.) What I want is very short, razored, and trendy. It'll end up looking butchered if not done correctly. And I'm old enough to know how my hair behaves and know that if it's cut correctly, it'll behave like the picture. Ugh. Help?????
I don't know what to suggest Jules....I'm usually so scared of screw ups I just keep my hair long...... I'm not sure who you saw before but I saw Jeff at Regis (Ingram Mall) and was satisfied - although I brought in several pics and we kind of used them as "inspiration" only. Overall I was happy but I would hate for you to go to him and be disappointed again....
Why don't you go in for a consult first and get a feel for the person before you get it cut next time? Or........the next time you see someone with GREAT hair ask them who did it AND use your phone to snap a pic, pronto! That way you can go to the same stylist and have the pic to refresh their memory!
Hope that helps!
Good luck and let us know when your next haircut is a success!

I realized that folks may be reluctant to give rec's, since I'd been unhappy with one before. I know I'd feel bad, too. But I would love to hear if anybody has been pleased with the result that they got when they brought in a pic.
And I think I will do like you said ~ go in for a consult first. And a real consult, not just "so, what are we doing today?" I also need to be more assertive and bring in the photo of what my most recent cut was supposed to look like (since it was only done about 2 weeks ago) and ask "does this appear to be the same cut to you? what would you have done differently?" And then show the pics I have now and say, "please explain to me how you will cut my hair to achieve this cut".
Thanx for the feedback on Jeff! I know that hadleyzoo had recommended him, too, so I may have to ask him for a consult!!
I also took a photo in to her on our first visit... although, it has been impossible to find an EXACT photo of my cut (I should have HER photo it next time she cuts it!!! wow, what a revelation....)
anyway, I wear a very precision short cap type cut, spiked in layers (i.e., not spiked UP/upward, but laying in sharp little points with 'butch wax' type stuff)...
so yes, it very much needs a nearly perfect, precision cut and Maria gets it exact everytime...
if you go see her, do tell her how much I love her... LOL.....
Jules, I think you will like her in particular; she wears a hairstyle nearly exactly like the one you had last time I saw you.... and her hair is coal black.....
If any of you go see here, please let me know.....
ETA::: be sure to say specifially "Maria Haq" because there are several Maria's there....

YES....you should definitely get her to snap a photo of your hair after a cut - especially if you are particularly pleased with that style. I had a hairstylist back up in Canada that took polaroids each time you got a cut with her - that way if you wanted a repeat haircut - she could remember EXACTLY what to do! I thought it was really professional of her to do it. She was probably the best hairstylist I've ever had.....Maybe the woman you recommended may be similar.....I'll have to check her out if I decide to change my hairstyle (right now I'm keeping it Long and simple so I can wear it up most days...otherwise my baby just pulls at it - OUCH!)
I go to Salons by JC. Ask for cynthia. I will Dm you her #. Shes amazing. I have a pretty brown with blonde highlights and in the back underneath I have jet black to make the color pop. I get so many complements on it. It was a pretty risky hair color but she toned it down for me so I could wear it to work. I love love the cut. I always take her pictures and she will tell me if it will work for me because of my hair texture and face shape
So sorry to hear you're not having any luck with finding someone to do your hair. I love Jeff at Ingram...but I'm pretty simple, not in to the trendy cuts, etc. But that's just me. I do want to go in for some highlights and Jeff had said we should start with just a few to see how I like it, and add more as time goes on. (I've never colored my hair.) I would suggest calling and making a 15 to 30 minute appointment with him (he is usually booked solid on the weekends) and go chat with him. He'll tell you what he thinks can and can't be done or what should or shouldn't be done. And I don't think Regis charges for a consult?
Hey Midori--my DD and I went and saw Jeff a couple weeks ago. And he was so funny. He says to me "I'm on Google". I said "what?". He said "google me and you'll find mention of me on this forum". I started laughing....then I told him it was me that made the recommendation.
