Thank you! I would LOVE a farmers market on this side of town! Anything to help the culinary slump I've noticed in this town. I'm not bad mouthing SA, just noticed it's not as advanced food wise as other cities. What a bummer.

Here is the response I got regarding putting up a Farmer's Market in the Potranco/1604 area:
Sorry for the late reply. No good excuse (except being busy getting ready for our first markets)
It would be great if we could get a farmers market in the 1604/Potranco area.
Right now we are locked into 9 different markets in 7 days with only about 20 farmers.
We have to have liability insurance and a contract with every location where we sell.
So we are booked up for this year.
If you know of a church, business, or other organization that would allow us to use their parking lot or other open area, we might be able to set something up for 2009.
If our membership desires a change from a market that might have declining sales, they would be very interested in a new more profitable site.
Thanks for the inquiry,
John Marrs of the San Antonio Farmers Market Association
So....it's not likely to happen unless they find the right location and/or they give up one of their existing locations. I think that if we really want one in this area, more of us should email them to lobby for it. Here is the email address if any of you want to "petition" for one:

Maybe you were reading the couple of threads here discussing CSAs? There is no longer a community-supported agriculture provider in the area, but there are plenty of farmers' markets.

I started that thread & actually just joined a CSA. Look online for Local Harvest to find one in your area. I also went to a Farmer's Market up near Bulverde last wknd. Saturdays from 3-8, I believe. It was north out 281 to 41 west.

I saw a sign on Culebra for a Farmer's Market, and almost pulled over, until I realized it was a guy with a canopy selling plants from the back of his truck.

If you're talking about the one in front of Amy's, that lady wanted $13 for a hanging basket of verbena. I was looking for a deal, not higher prices than Home Depot.

That was it! I am really hoping one gets started on this side of town. Does anyone know if anything exists in Castroville/Hondo like that?

There will be a farmers market on Main Plaza downtown, but most likely on Fridays. The Pearl Brewery will have a big one eventually. There is already a small market once at month at the Houston Street Fair. As for grocery stores, the Main Plaza Market is right there, but Hippo's is more of a full store, just south a few blocks by the river. And Delivery Market has an assortment on Houston Street.

Do you know how the Delivery Market on Houston compares to the one they closed on S. Alamo? I was very disappointed. They had basically two aisles of chips and salsa, a handful of produce and a tiny section with one of a few other grocery items. The wine and beer selection was decent though.
I wanted to use the store, but unless I wanted chips or beer, there was not much reason to go
