Default Safe housing near Trinity?

I'm moving from College Station to San Antonio in order to pursue a graduate degree at Trinity University. I've read the previous posts asking about safe housing in the area, but I realize that areas can change fairly quickly and most of the posts are older. Could anyone recommend safe housing areas in San Antonio that would be convenient to Trinity? I will probably be living in apartments which I realize are always more dangerous but location seems to matter a lot in SA. Thanks!

I would suggest Olmos Park, along McCullough St. There are some smaller rentals in that area and can find a competitive deal vs apts.

Safe area and good neighbors out that way.

Congrats and good luck on your grad work!

The neighborhoods surrounding Trinity are:
  • Monte Vista immediately to the west (between Shook & San Pedro)
  • Monte Vista & Tobin Hill immediately to the south (Mulberry down to Ashby or so)
  • Alta Vista to the west of Monte Vista (on the other side of San Pedro)
  • Olmos Park immediately to the north (north of Hildebrand)
All these neighborhoods are as safe as can be expected in any normal city. You can generally walk around at night without any worries, although as in any city you should always be aware of your surroundings. Monte Vista and Olmos Park can be quite pricey, Alta Vista and Tobin Hill less so. In Alta Vista and Tobin Hill, the houses are not all completely renovated/gentrified but many/most are. These two neighborhoods were not considered all that safe 10 years ago, but today they're perfectly fine. There are a ton of apartments frequently occupied by Trinity students on Rosewood and Lullwood near the intersection of Shook, right across from the campus. Most apartments near Trinity are not in complexes; usually in duplexes/4plexes that are advertised on craigslist and in the Trinitonian (The Trinitonian). There are some exceptions, of course, including Rosemont, Contour and a couple complexes in Olmos Park... but you'll usually get more space for less money in a private apartment. Feel free to DM me if you want more info on anything related to Trinity.

Default housing near trinity university

I am currently a student at UT but recently got accepted into the Pharmacy program at Incarnate Word and was also wondering if anyone knew of some affordable student apartments located somewhere near Trinity University/Incarnate word that are in a good neighborhood and relatively safe? and possibly even furnished as well. Thanks!

If you guys are still looking, maybe I can help. I'm a current student at Trinity, and as far as I know, most people living off campus live further away from campus. Honestly, Olmos Park, Alamo Heights, etc., etc., aren't very student housing friendly.

There is an apartment complex just down Hildebrand though. Its within walking distance to Trinity and Incarnate Word's new Pharmacy school.

Honestly, I think Trinity and Incarnate Word are in the worst possible places in terms of offering student housing. The neighborhoods are already established... and very very expensive.

Seriously, if you just drive around the immediate surrounding neighborhoods, you'll find something great in a 4-plex/small apartment building mold. The great thing about those neighborhoods is that they are established, as are most university neighborhoods, so you've got everything you need in a short distance. Start at the intersection of Hildebrand and McCullough and work your way outward from there.
