I am looking to relocate to TX. Upon research and finally finding a couple of apartments in my price range and low crime I stumbled upon Stone Oak in SA. I googled it and a blog popped up so now Im wondering if its a good place for me (a black woman) and my kids (black/mixed) Im use to being around mostly white people but I also grew up and although i experienced racism here & there i never like feared for my safety its also gotten more diverse & I know going to a new place it might be different. Would that area be good for us or is it white washed ?

That depends on your preference. I’ve noticed having a large black or Hispanic population doesn’t seem to stop racism. The most horrific racism in Texas I’ve noticed is in East Texas.

Yes, it is too white. Stick to the east side. You won't experience any racism there. (all the white people moved away)

Cheese and rice.

Are we allowed to ask if a place is "too black" I wonder?

What this country has devolved into.....

Stone Oak is predominantly white and Hispanic from what I remember, but there's enough diversity and acceptance that you shouldn't feel like an outsider at all. The San Antonio area is pretty mixed up and possibly one of the least racist big cities in the country. Everyone gets along fine for the most part.

In most every part of the metro except the south side you'll see middle class black families around; some military, some local and even a number of African immigrants. Suburbs like Converse and Live Oak will have a higher percentage of black folks, but these areas aren't as nice and new as Stone Oak.

Hope this helps .

It's zoned to Reagan High School, which is very large and diverse, only 39% non-hispanic white.

No, you certainly may not! That would be (gasp) racist!

Did you check the city data demographics for 78258? They might be a good place to look at objective stats. I always was under the impression that it was pretty 50/50 white preppy kids and rich Mexicans.

its not exactly this, but not a bad generalization. San Antonio has a big mexican presence all across the metro and a low black population, but imo racism has never really been an issue here. racism feels more prominent in places like east texas once you pass houston. i like the stone oak area, you wont have any issues. traffic sucks though.

Why does the 78207 area remain heavily Mexican and poor? Why is 78221 and 78223 primarily African American? Racism. It's not overt. It's about power and privilege. San Antonio has repeatedly been named one of the most segregated cities in the nation. And this is not my jaded "I moved from San Antonio in 2015 after living there from 1988-2015" opinion. Also, this coming from Austin where the dividing line between races is the highway.

Also wondering if this would do better in the San Antonio forum.
