Wasn't the Peace Corps established by JFK, c. 1960? So there wouldn't have been a Peace Corps training facility during the Depression of the 30s.

I've no doubt the area was Third World-like then (and in some parts of Bexar County is now), however. Just don't think it was the Peace Corps training in the 30s...
You're right about the Peace Corps - that was a Kennedy program. In the 30s, an agency like that would have been a division of the WPA that did social work and poverty intervention (ie, a Roosevelt program - part of the New Deal). I know there were WPA projects here in the 30s to deal with the endemic tuberculosis - San Antonio had one of the highest rates of TB in the nation.

that's really sad to hear that it's gone. an old college native san antonian college friend told me about cherry st once. i have been looking for it since. now i've learned from your post that a piece of san antonio history has been destroyed by the bible thumpers.

Im sorry that you cant grasp the idea. Having a one tracked mind might cause you to respond as such or being 16. As someone else here said - If you wanted to find call girls for hire the internet is full of them as are the newspapers. Moreover there are net sites which all they talk about are call girls. This is not the place for that. This is a thread about San Antonio and its history. Not every photo will have the tower in it.

Photographing an aspect of life or lack of it which will soon be no longer is not an original idea on my part. The array of 'nightlife' on broadway is gone and a black and white of such person walking past Tomatillos or other establishments, in my opinion, would be poignant and appealing. But to each his own right.

Had no idea about the Ingram area. wow a lot has changed since I used to live here.

Try Zarzamora on the west side. My students have mentioned some questionable activity there.

Cash for 'attention'. Females in public strutting around for male attention will NEVER go away. It's simple, you want, you get.
NOTHING comes to you. Gotta make the effort. Why does prostitution exist? The REAL truth > Because women want it to exist.
Human beings do what they like to do.
Something for something, constant throughout human history.

I wonder what makes a person search for 'street walkers' from 2009 and revive the thread.

I mean, hey, more power to you. It is the world's oldest profession

There's some online forums where members actively discuss their....ahem...."exploits" with such individuals. Very interesting stuff.
