And a family membership there is probably the best entertainment value around. We do have a nice zoo!

I've been to San Diego zoo and, personally, I like San Antonio's better.

My parents took me to the San Diego Zoo when I was 4. I had a pretty pink sweater on, and the goats proceeded to eat said sweater, right off my arm, in the petting zoo there. Fond childhood memory!

I haven't been to the San Antonio zoo in about...hmmm...I do remember coming to the San Antonio zoo 30 years ago as a young child. I have pictures somewhere....I remember riding the elephants too---have pictures of that somewhere too.
I really need to get out there and see how much of it has changed---just not enough hours in the day or days in the week.

We are getting full value out of our family membership...but darnit...I STILL have not been to the gift shop! But I did get one of those cool injection molded plastic thingies. LOL Talk about bringing back a taste of my youth! I had a plethora of those from Lion Country Safari...though I think my mom ditched those ages ago. *sigh*

We love the zoo, we have passes too. If you have young kids the Tot Spot is awesome. We hit the zoo early take our lunches then at 12pm put the kiddos in their suits to splash & build sand castle in the water part of the Tot Spot.

omg --- those plastic molded animals were the best when i was a kid --- they were a must have souvenir --- i remember vividly putting in my 2 quarters to get an elephant or a lion or a tiger --- and then burning my hands on the hot wax because i could not wait the few minutes it said to wait before you grabbed it out ---
man, great memories...
