As for transportation, yes voters turned down light rail in 1999 but VIA is currently putting some 1 billion into the first Rapid Bus Transit line from the Medical Center to downtown. Also, rumor has it ARMA (Alamo Regional Mobility Authority) has plans to start their own Light Rail once the toll road situation is resolved.

As for the 30 minute commute, the average travel time on SA freeways actually decreased from 2004-2005 by a minute I believe, from 23 minutes to 22 minutes.

So I have no idea where this 30 minute commute came from.
But Austin has a lot of residential high rises going up. More than San Antonio can dream of right now.

It came from me as my either first or second post. I don't mind it though. For most who don't live just outside "the city", I would assume it is what you are mentioning. Everyone have a safe weekend.

Maybe proposed but not under construction.

What does that have to do with his saying SA isn't a city or doesn't feel like one.

I don't judge cities or think you're a "city" by the number of highrises in the downtown area. So that doesn't fly.

Downtown SA right now has five highrises under construction with 4-5 more proposd.

Why are people upset that we think SA is not a real "city"? I thought that many natives were proud of the "small town feel." Many of the people considering a move to SA are interested in coming precisely because it IS podunk, and would not want it any other way. One person's hell is another's heaven so to speak. Why is that a bad thing? (It's just not for ME, that's all.)

Regarding the VIA, would that be a non-stop between the med center and downtown? Would it only go down 10, or perhaps swing past 281 and Monte Vista? I know people probably don't know yet, but was just curious. Thanks.

I live in L.A. and come to San Antonio for business. My commute to work is 10 miles and it takes me usually 45minutes to an hour. I live 23 miles from the airport and it usually takes me an hour and a half to get there. I enjoy coming to San Antonio because its not as nuts as L.A.

San Antonio is also one of the fastest growing largest cities in America. Some people may think poorly of this place, but its growing fast and the traffic is better than L.A.!!!

San Antonio (from places I have seen) likes to think they are larger than Dallas (they are), but they are larger than Dallas only city limit wise. When metro areas come in, San Antonio lacks. San Antonio is the nations 7th? largest city, but metro wise, it is around 30th in the nation.

Montevista, I hope you are this enthusiastic when you actually MOVE to SA and are numbed by it month after month. SA looks great from a distance, and seems doable in short spurts.

LOL I agree with you that is not as exciting as LA. I agree with you that its not as diverse. I agree that coming for a couple days is not the same as living.

LA is such a rat race A starter home is 650K! Its insane! The cost of living affects the quality of life. If you are not making 100K+ your life is not fun. If you are not making tons of money then LA is not accessible to you.

Robert 123, would you rather live in Palmdale driving 2hrs to work or would you rather live in a dumpy apartment close to town filled with illegals then live in San Antonio?
