Funny. I especially like #6.

At least I can assume that most folks I know weren't assuming we were stealing beer every time we went for a beer run.

The only connection is observing crimes being committed, chasing through a field, and cleaning up tagging along the fences of Timber Path. I won't be attending the funeral - if anyone took it to be a personal connection.

Oh, sorry! I definitely didn't mean that at all, and I hope no one took it that way. I thought you posted in here earlier that it was the guy you had already busted for tagging. Sorry!!!

I have always understood a beer run to be just as you say - running to the store to grab more beer. But in the last 10 years that I'm aware of, the same term also applies to the stealing of beer usually after hours. The point being that they cannot legally purchase beer after a certain hour due to the state law, so they go in, and take the beer - then run. The not paying for it is usually just a result of not being able to legally purchase it.

I'd say more than likely they can't legally purchase it at all since most of them would be under the age of 21.

I do believe that when one of us says they are making a beer run, most people get the different definition!

This happens EVERYWHERE, not just the other side of the loop. If you just look at Culebra (and you don't have to look that hard by the way) it has its fair share of crime. It's not like you couldn't see this happening in this neighborhood by a mile away. Hello? Do you think all these quote "gangbangers" piled up in their souped-up cars with 20 inch rims and kick ass sound systems from the West side of town and said, "Hmmm...now lemme see what Northside neighborhood could we terrorize for the night." No, they apparently live around there especially if they are in fact the "suspected" taggers. Good post, but I don't know why you would even think you were being an alarmist. The alarms have been going off for awhile now.

i tend to agree --- i am very familiar with this area --- my mom worked at the Handy Andy that used to be in the BINGO shopping center for years and years and i used to work at the Winn's in the same shopping center from 1987 - 1990 --- alot of my friends lived in the Timber Path area and a couple of my boyfriends did as well --- there were always gangbangers in their Red Wing lace up's, Guess or Girbaud jeans, Polo or Tommy shirts smoking their Marlboro Red's...they hung out at Rocky J's ALOT or played basketball at the surrounding apt. complexes ---

when i frequented the area there were never any shootings, but there was plenty of tagging and recruiting going on --- i was between the ages of 17 - 21 during this time and went to parties almost every weekend in that area and i saw first hand what was going on "behind the scenes" --- many of these parties had booze that was strictly obtained by gangers going on beer runs ---

this isn't to say that the same thing isn't going on in any other part of town, because i am sure it is going on everywhere --- it's just sad that things have escalted to this point --- hopefully there will be no retaliation....
