*** UPDATE ***

omg --- will this infection saga ever come to an end???

so we were home from the hospital for 1 week and went to our follow up with out primary doctor --- she didn't like the way his foot looked --- she said the infection site still looked "angry" --- she wanted us to go for an MRI and she wanted it done that same day --- this was this past wednesday --- so off we go

curt got out of the MRI/x-ray at 2pm and by 315 our doctor was calling us that there was a massive abcess underneath his skin --- she had already called and scheduled us with an orthopedic surgeon, who wanted to see us that same day --- we could not make it on wednesday, we had to pick up all our kids from grandma's/schools so we went to see the ortho surgeon on Thursday monday ---

so emergency surgery was scheduled for Friday morning --- the surgeon rearranged his schedule and pushed all his patients back inorder to get curt in at 630am for surgery --- so he made an almost 5in incision down the top of his foot and removed 5cc's worth of junk out of his foot, which he said is very extensive for that part of the body --- the infection had already started traveling down into the healthy flesh but the surgeon was able to remove it all ---

the infection seemed to be settling somewhat in the bone --- but it had not yet compromised the structure of the bone, so no bone had to be removed --- finally some good news --- the surgeon left the incision open, so as to heal from the inside out, but it is packed with tons of gauze and he has a stint on it ---

we have to go back on Tuesday to have the guaze pulled and the incision repacked --- we are not looking forward this as the orthopedic doctor said for dh to make sure to take a pain narcotic prior to the procedure as it will hurt, alot...

so that's where we stand at this point --- dh is home and not in any pain, which is good --- but is very tired of not being mobile --- so far they have him out of work until July 1st, which he is not happy about, he hates not being able to work ---

hopefully dh will be feeling well enough to join us at the Meet and Greet on the 14th --- he is really dying to get out of the house so if the doc says it's okay, he will be joining us --- see you all then!!!

Just wondering, do you have any idea how this all began? Was it some sort of bite or wound? This has just been awful for your family. I really hope he starts getting better very soon!

yes, we know how it all started --- dh was washing the cars during the day on 5/6 and he was barefoot --- by that night he was running a fever ---

apparently on the bottom of dh's foot he had some peeling skin and a very small crack in the skin --- this all comes from him wearing his work boots for many hours a day --- so anyway, this small crack in the skin was enough of an entry point for the bacteria to get in ---

dh remembers stepping on a rock and the doc says that is what pushed the bacteria in ---

moral of the story --- ALWAYS wear flip flops when washing the car --- we will be investing in several pairs, that's for sure!!!

I need to remind my DH of this! He has a habit of not wearing shoes outside sometimes and is always burning his feet or hurting them.

Yikes....amazing how the simplest of tasks can turn out to have serious consequences.

I will keep praying for your DH and family.
