Check out the sticky thread at the top of this forum and look for "Visitors - Sightseeing - What to do?" Our moderator new2sa has compiled a terrific list of links under that category that will give you all kinds of great ideas for things to do here.

todaro, we are moving to SA from NJ too!
We were just in & out in 2 days for our visit down & didn't get to see the riverwalk or any "tourist" things but what we did see (NW part of town) was really nice & everyone we met ...well, lets just say they were a LOT more friendly & approachable than most I've met in NJ
Have a wonderful trip! I think you'll love it!

Rudy's is famous for BBQ here and I've never been disappointed. You could also visit Freddy's Frozen Custard (multiple locations). They have great hot dogs, some people like the burgers (I didn't) and their sundaes and concretes are freaking great and filling (they're made with frozen custard instead of ice cream, which I'm sure you probably already figured out..). The other two I can't help you with. I get my coffee from my coffee pot every morning and have never seen a good pastry place here. I'm sure there are plenty though.
