I live off Jones-Maltsberger south of Thousand Oaks, and had these ants in my yard two years ago. I've been waiting for them to come back, but haven't seen them since summer 2007.

In addition to a few places in my backyard, I actually would see them in my shower. I had been out of town at one point, and when I got home and turned on the shower faucet, hundreds of them scattered out of the tub spout before the water started to pour out. This happened a few more times at random--I often do all of my showering at the gym when I am on a daily routine there.

BLAAAHH!!! YUCK! (as I sit here shaking and quivering at the thought of ants coming out my shower head).

Smitty12, the article said that they suspect that the ants may have originated in the Caribbean or in the southeastern U.S. (Florida maybe?), of course not the Gulf of Mexico per se. Climate change would be one possible explanation if one were to consider that perhaps they did not arrive in Texas before now because of inhospitable climate conditions. Species all around the globe are slowly migrating northward.

It's only climate change if they got hot down in the carribean and decided to swim up.

Uh, same thing. Their comfort zone could have shifted northward. And I doubt that they swam, but hey, I've learned it's better not to question folks here
