it's the future home of NSA Texas. You have to have a TS/SCI clearance to work there.

What level of clearance is that. I'm not sure what level I have, I have to look. But that building is really close to my house, I was looking for some type of Human Resources, or Admin positions. Can you offer any help?

It's a clearance you would definitely know you have if you had it. Very few people have it and it's not something you can simply apply for. It's a long process that sometimes takes years.
and that reminds me that I need to do my 5 year update. joy...

Don't let this completely discourage you though. If there is a need for a skill you have, and they cannot find it in someone who already has the accesses, they will hire outside and do the investigation. This tends to be highly skilled and specialized stuff though.... Easier or easily trainable stuff they just hire anyone with the clearance and train them. Cost less that way. The military puts a significant amount of people on the street after their commitment with these clearances who snap up those "easier" jobs.

You are more likely to get in with some Contractors who are performing both Unclassified and Classified work, that way they have somewhere to utilize you while you wait for the Investigation to go through. I know of several people who hold these kind of clearances who were never military, or civil service by going this route.

BTW, I've also see it take only six months to get the investigation done. Though that is usually someone young, with a short background...

there are exceptions to the rule, but there are large amounts of us that already have the clearance and have worked there before that are trying to get back in with them as either a GS or a contractor. I'm personally waiting for my appealed disability rating to come back so I can take advantage of being 30%+ and then I'm going to apply for a GS position. The only thing I don't like is having to take the lifestyle poly.. I've done the CI one and it wasn't a big deal, but have heard very bad things about the lifestyle. I have nothing to hide, but sometimes the truth just isn't good enough..
BTW, I'm sure there will be a couple positions open that don't require a clearance, but NSA tends to keep that at an absolute minimum. Even our cleaning people have clearances..
BTW2, My first investigation was done within a little more than a year, but my first update took about 6 years to complete. It was lost for a few years before anyone noticed, but it still took forever.

edit- that sounds kinda negative, but I meant for it to sound realistic. There will be a couple of "regular" people getting a job there, but the vast majority will be former military that already worked there and already have the clearance.. good example would be where I work now. My shop has 21 people and 20 of the 21 were former military and having the clearance was the main thing they were looking for when hiring.

Well my clearance took almost a year I just kept working until they completed it. It was pretty intense, and they asked for alot of personal information. I've only had a while now. Do you have any idea where to find out what contractors will be hiring, or where I can search for these job openings if there even out there yet?

what field are you in? and where do you work now? if you don't want to post it, feel free to send me a message.

I think you need at least 10 posts before you can send messages though (to stop the spammers). so you might have to read a few other threads and ask some questions or posts some opinions in them. There's plenty of stuff to write about around here

Just be aware that the news of NSA opening new operations in San Antonio has been around for years and they have already received thousands of resumes from folks wanting to work there, many of which already have clearances (and hence an edge over those who don't).

By all means apply, and you can start by going to their web site (National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA/CSS) -- Site Start Page) and look under 'careers'...they even have a email notification you can sign up for. I think it will still be over a year before the place is up and running, and I am not even sure if I would bother if they contacted me (I met with a NSA recruiter over two years ago and she put my resume against several possible jobs areas they were hiring for).

But also understand that there are other areas in San Antonio that do the same kind of work, and there are many GS and contractor jobs out there. Go to USAJOBS - The Federal Government's Official Jobs Site for the government positions and many of us on here are currently contractors, so if you have a resume and a specific career field you are interested in, post a message on here and we will see what we can do to help.

Cheers! M2

NSA is also building a data center on site, but will also require the same clearance. They held a job fair a couple of years ago, and experienced problems getting the facility into operation since then. They finally were able to work many of the complications out and are now moving forward with plans.
