I have noticed prices falling at HEB on my last couple of trips. Anyone else noticing the same at walmart?

When did HEB become the more expensive store?? When I first moved to Texas (College Station), we had Kroger, Albertson's, and HEB. I think we had a Super Wal-Mart, too, but I can't remember. In any case, I thought of HEB as the cheap store. It always seemed more value-oriented than the others in the area.

H-E-B use to be the low price champion back when with Albertson's in the market. It seems like since they've left (albertsons) H-E-B has slowly over the years increased prices. Now, like others are stating, you can find a lot of stuff cheaper at Wal-Mart and Super Target....On another note, I live in Cibolo and there's still a Albertson's not too far down the road in New Braunfels and we recieve a weekly ad. I tell you what, Albertson's has lowered prices too and seems to have a lot of deals. I don't remember them being like that years ago when they were still in town. As for cheap milk, I too have Costco membership and they have the best deal on a gallon of milk compared to anyone else.

I remember when HEB used to have full-page newspaper ads comparing their lower prices against Albertson's and other competitors until they left SA. I'm glad that Walmart and Target continue to take on HEB.

As a mother feeding 3 hungry boys (and a hungry husband!) NO ONE beats Wal-Mart prices. I am always pleasantly surprised at what $200 a week will get me at Wal-Mart versus HEB.

I dont think it is so much that HEB has gotten more expensive, but that walmart and target have much greater buying power. Someone told me a while back that HEB does try to price match walmart, but walmart always manages to go lower.

I think you quoted the wrong person. I didn't say anything about HEB getting more expensive, just that I'm glad they have competition.

It seems to go back and forth between my HEB and Walmart on prices. This week I scored at HEB because of the meat sale they are having. The trick for me is shopping at several places. I hit the bread outlet, Big Lots for snacks for the kids' lunches and school snacks and sometimes pantry items(I found huge bags of cereal for 2.50 this week), sometimes the Dollar Tree and depending on what the ad looks like online I then decide whether or not to shop at HEB that week or go to Walmart.

i have found several items at Sam's that were listed at almost $1.50 more than what it scanned for --- i don't know if this was due to price drops or prices not being updated in the scanners...

In the past 6weeks i have started shopping at Sam's and started buying in bulk --- i never believed the whole "buying in bulk saves you money" thing but I am now a firm believer --- I was spending about $250 every 1.5 - 2 weeks for our family of 5 --- what i did was go to Sam's and stock up and I spent about $400 doing this --- now I go every Friday and only buy what we need to replenish our stock and I end up spending about $60 - $80 --- so in the long run, I am saving quite a bit...
