I just hate to recommend to anyone to go without insurance--it's a necessary evil unless you are disciplined enough to put money away every month for dental visits.
Oh I agree! I would never encourage anyone to go without insurance. I guess I'm just saying that if you're getting insurance for the sole purpose of braces, annual cleanings, etc it probably isn't worth it. Most of us (I can put myself in this category) are not disciplined enough to set aside "dental savings".

My daughter needed braces to straighten some teeth, fix her bite, etc...and neither one of my kids have had cavities either due to the invention of sealants. I think by the time I was 10, I had 10 cavities.

Well, thank you all for the wonderful insights
Here's to hoping my hubby gets a good job offer soon that includes a decent dental plan.

He has a daughter from a previous relationship that we have to have dental for & then our daughter needs some more work ... sure seems like it would be better to pay for what we need out of pocked then pay so much for so little coverage.

Thanks again!!!! I'm so happy I found this forum!

We did choose to stay w/Tricare Prime for medical and have had good luck with that so far through their list of providers. Through my husband's company, health care was going to be $500/month for the family. Tricare Prime is ~ $500/year! We pay a $12 co-pay and the med are still the same = $3 for generic, $9 for brand name.
Did Tricare Prime go up? I paid $460 last year but have to renew in July.

I think ~ means "about" or "approximately." $460 is indeed ~ $500.
